So been having some issues with the transmission with my 2000 F-350. When putting it in reverse it has a lag before it goes. And when it start to go in reverse it seems like I am having to have the RPM's higher than i used to. It also when putting it in a gear it has what I will describe as a whine, also the whine is more prominant in idle than it is under acceleration.
So some history and what I have done so far.
Has 180000 miles on the truck went through a transmission rebuld at 167000 by previous owner.
I crawled under the truck and took the cover off to look at the fly wheel and torque convertor. I could see the torque convertor was replaced when it was rebuilt. and seems like the noice is coming from the front end of the transmission.
I don't have much experience in automatic transmissions but have rebuilt a racing transmission before. Any help would be helpfull before i take it to the shop, also I am willing to also try to fix my self if it is something i can do,
I would say the lag is more like 5-6 seconds. It also seems like it taking a lot more RPM's to get it to go around 1500-1750. I had someone i talked to say it could be the front pump going out on it. I don't know enough about the automatic transmission to know what this is or what its symptoms are.
I did pull all the codes last night after posting and only three codes popped up only one relating to the transmission which was P0781 1-2 shift malfunction.
I do have the auto enguinity enhanced ford package, i am going to hook that up to it tonight. But I'm not sure if there is a specific sensor that I should be looking at other wise i'm just going to see if any thing is out of the ordinary.
I also did check the fluid and it was at the proper range just in case that question arises.
I hope you dont go through the same trouble Franko72 went through. I think he had the 1-2 shift problem and then all down hill from there. I suggest if you have to take it in to get fixed, go sraight to BTS.
Still NO update on my truck, asked a few mechanics I know and they are unsure but recommended changing the fluid. gonna try that this week.
but another quick question What vehicles was the 4r100 transmission in.
I have access to a salvage auction site and there is at 2003 F250 With the 6.0 diesel in it. From what I can tell it would have the same transmission as my truck but I want to confirm. Right now nobody has bid on it and it ends on Friday, so there is potential I can get a backup/spare cheap.
thank you Mark you saved a couple hundred from me buying that truck.
If Im not mistaken then would it only be the 1999-2002 F250/F350/E250/E350 Is it a specific motor/tranny combo I should be looking for or anything in the said vehicles above.
