OEM PSD Turbo specs, upgrade options, and user feedback

The purpose of this thread is to:
1. Document the specs of the stock Excursion turbos (6.0 and 7.3)
2. Document the specs of available upgraded turbos
3. Document user experiences/recommended uses/approx hp/tq with aftermarket turbos including spool compared to stock, impact on towing, etc.
4. Document suggested mods for each turbo (ex 4" exhaust, 155mm injectors or bigger, etc)

Here are the Stock 6.0L PSD turbo specs:
Garrett GT3782V- 2003-2005 Ford 6.0L PSD
Compressor wheel Inducer: 58.00m 2.28in
Compressor wheel Exducer: 81.55mm 3.21in
Compressor housing A/R .58
Turbine wheel inducer diameter: 72.25mm 2.84in
Turbine wheel exducer diameter: 66.45mm 2.62in
Turbine housing A/R .9 A/R

Here are the Stock 7.3L PSD Turbo Specs:
STOCK GARRETT TP38 (on the 7.3)
Compressor wheel inducer diameter: 59.87 mm (60 mm)
Compressor wheel exducer diameter: 80 mm
Compressor housing A/R: 1.10
Turbine wheel inducer diameter: 76.2 mm
Turbine wheel exducer diameter: 69.84 mm (70 mm)
Turbine housing A/R: 1.15

I have looked for a sticky like this in both the X and 6L forums and I didnt find this information. I am currently researching a turbo/injector upgrade for my X and I thought this information would be useful to others.

I will update this post this evening with some of the information I have gathered on aftermarket turbo options. My big question that I am looking to anwser is, how big is too big for my application? (05 X used as a dd, and will tow approx 8,000lbs 8-10 times a summer.

If you have information on aftermarket available turbos in the above format, post it up and I will add it to the list.

1. Available 6L upgraded turbos
Garrett Powermax GT3788VA
Compressor Wheel Inducer: 63.5mm
Compressor Wheel Exducer: 88mm
Turbine Wheel Inducer: 72.5mm
Turbine Wheel Exducer: 66.5mm
Turbine Housing: .90

Anyone know the Compressor housing A/R for the powermax 63.5mm? I know this is a popular upgrade, any user feedback?

This might get more relevant traffic in the 6.0 and 7.3 sections, that's where people mostly go for their diesel engine issues and information, and there's a LOT more 7.3's and 6.0's that are not excursions than there are that are excursions, as a ton more f250-f350's sold than excursions with those engines. Just a suggestion.

I upgraded to the power max on mine With matt's custom tunes, you will have a huge power upgrade. The downside is Ive lost 2 mpg non towing. I just received his 8k tune & will post my return mileage from alpine wy to mn. It whistles like crazy, which i like

Sounds awesome

Stock injectors? I assume you are referring to the 63.5mm Powermax I listed the specs for above?

I have seen online vendors selling 63.5, 65, and 68mm Powermax turbos.

Is the 63.5mm the only stock Garrett turbo? I assume both the 65 and 68 mm turbos are ported out 63.5's performed by tuner shops.

I know the 68mm modified powermax that is sold by River City Diesels is a modded Powermax. Is the 65mm the same?

good questions, i was having trouble with the stock one, had it rebuilt but decided to go with a power max. My 1/4 mile time(edge insight) from a dead stop was 93 mph in 15.75 sec to 99 mph in 14.25 sec! Like i said im down about 2 mpg, but the hp & toque are incredible

bigdaddybus, like Jay suggested, you will have MUCH better input with threads posted in each of the 7.3L PSD and 6.0L PSD forums.

Excursions cover all engines types, including 5.4L and 6.8L gas engines.

Can you move this to the 6L forum for me?

And fix the title to "OEM PSD Turbo specs, upgrade options, and user feedback".

Thanks
