Programmers dont cause any damage at all,,,,,, people misusing them are the problem. Just because I can get 100 xtra hp by pushing a button, doesnt mean I should use that extra hp all the time. I run stage 5 on edge with no load all the time, however I will only hammer on it for maybe 5 sec max at a time. Think of it as running for your life,,, sure when you are doing it, adrenaline kicks in, but it dont take long for physical reality to kick in. that's my take

If you hard on it always stock it can cause damage if you use the power once in awhile tuned you should be ok i had no egt gauge in mine ran a fast tune drove it hard and blew headgaskets 5k later not the 6.0s fault just mine but added more power = more stress on parts.

I have heard the deal with head gaskets and such. But I'm not looking to win drag races yet just increase mpgs a little bit.

Look into FICM tuning from Power Hungry Performance. Typical MPG improvements are 1-3 and throttle response is greatly enhanced. This is a tuning adjustment NOT a horsepower enhancer.
