ignition switch question

Ok so ive had plenty of electrical problems recently. Ive also had problems with my key cylinder. so i figured id go ahead and replace that. when i was pulling that out, following the directions of my chiltons manual, the connector at the end of a black wire, desinigerated. it will still put power to the accesories when i turn the key to the run position but wont start. what is that black wire? can i get a replacement fitting or should i attempt to put it back together? its the fitting that slides down in with the cylinder
