Looking at an 07-08 Expedition..What are some problem areas
Guys I have searched through the forum and have not come across too many issues that stand out as far as the 07+ goes, but do any of you have or know of major issues that are common with the newer style expeditions ? I have an 04 f150 lariat, but need the extra room with another child on the way and i really like how the 07's look. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Watch really close for bubbling paint on tailgate. Recall for door handle springs should have been done by now (safety recall). Spare tire is only a 17, my truck has the 18's. Original Pirellies ride great but are trash at 46K. Depending when truck was built there is an issue/recall for the fuel rail. If you have the chrone "clad" wheels which are cheap hub caps, the center blue oval continually fades to clear, they call it delaminating, I call it cheap crap for a 50K truck, which all four have been replaced twice.
Gas milage city about 15, yet at 55 to 65 MPH I can get 19 with six adults and luggage for a short weekend. You get up to the 70 MPH and above MPG can drop to 16-17 MPG really fast. The trans re-flash worked good on mine yet others have complained theirs did not work.
07 EL Limited.

Wind noise
I have an early 2007. Apparently wind noise is a known problem. There was a fix involving a redesigned mirror and beefier weatherstripping. I guess everything was corrected by 2008. Just plain noisy at speeds.
I had the shift problem, seemed like missed shifts but was subtle. They replaced the valve body on the electrical warranty. Took some doing as I had to call Ford customer service after the local dealer said it was not covered under the drivetrain warranty. My warranty said transmission and all internal components... long story short, they covered it under the electrical warranty. I had a front brake caliper lock up and catch fire. $900ish to replace. No explanation there just normal town driving. I have seen it happen on another expedition at my work. The speakers are sketchy, I think I have 3 down and two are cracking. That is actually why I logged on today...
Other than that it has been a nice family mobile. I would recommend getting the power liftgate and power rear seats if you can find one. The gate would be too high for my wife without it. It has really nice room in the 3rd row. Better than any of the competition. If you have more than 2 kids, and will routinely use the 3rd row, I would recommend the 2nd row captains chairs. I wished I had got that option on mine.

Overall, they are good vehicles. Ford on the other hand won't stand behind them when you do have an issue.
2008 EL Limited with 26,xxx when I traded in. Went in for Warranty work for: Trans shift/banging, Siezed/Failed pulley, Electric seat failure, window failure (both rears), RUSTED OUT ROOF, Bubbled Emblem x2 times, warped brake rotors, the color on leather for drivers seat bled out
Wife and I loved our Expy. Warranty refused to cover the paint, the brakes and the leather. We cut our losses and moved on. I doubt I'll ever buy another new Ford again. I leased the 2012 Flex for the wife. Maybe I'll feel different in 2015 when the lease is up

I kept at them and finally they did a true road test. And they felt the bang/shudder/slam. Suddenly I wasn't a liar. Then they couldn't get the PCM to reflash and all sorts of other stuff.
I suggest you take them for a real drive. Due process to verify and fix a problem is the onus of the Owner. Dealerships aren't going to spend any time or effort on it
