Well a sad event lead to an opportunity to answer my own offset question I posted earlier in the thread. I loaned a family member my Ex over the Thanksgiving holiday for an out of town trip and they were unfortunately involved in an accident that totalled the truck. Nobody was seriously injured in either vehicle luckily but my truck is not salvageable. In the process of removing the 20" wheels and returning the stock 16" wheels to the truck before turning it over to the insurance co I had the chance to take a serious stab at calculating the offset on those stock wheels finally.

The stock 04(and several other years) 5 hole 16x7 "Lariat" wheels are a zero offset as near as I can tell. That would sorta explain why the offset is not stamped into the wheel along with the other wheel info. Maybe no listing of offset = zero offset.

No doubt, I am kinda glad the two vehicles that were involved were involved. The Ex protected my family and the Dodge Ram that turned in front of them was heavy enough to save that guys life. If he had been driving a normal vehicle it might have been quite a bit different outcome for him. His truck was crushed like a beer can but he made it.

Yea and on that second bit I was ignorant to the fact that this accident would be filed on my insurance if my family member turns out to be at fault. I thought whoever was driving their insurance would cover their accident. Not so apparently. My agent said it used to be that way but not anymore. I will not ever loan a vehicle again, I'll spring for a rental if it comes to it, a lot cheaper in the totality of it.

I put very small quarter inch spacers on my stock 16" alloy wheels when I got my new mud tires on. Horrible vibration at 60MPH so had them removed now she drives fine. I noticed with the spacer that the wheel did not have a 100% flat surface to sit on as the axle started sloping away? My spacer was barely. 1/4 inch too as I was just looking for a better stance

Suby,

So sorry to hear about the accident. Glad your family is ok. Guess safety is one of the reasons for driving an Ex, but still....you never want to have to find out! Also kinda sad theres one less Ex in our group.

Take care,
Karl

The spacer might not have let the wheels center up on the hubs as the factory wheels are hubcentric, might explain the vibration

Sorry to hear of the wreck, great news and most importantly is that nobody was injured. But its always sad to see another Excursion die, Ford really needs to start production again

I agree, I wish like anything Ford would make a modern incarnation(HD six speed tranny and modern gas motor - maybe even the Ecoboost 3.5) of the Excursion. An Ecoboost firing off dual fuel with CNG or LNG as the second option and I'd burn a path to the dealership.

SO I have a 2005 Excursion LTD, 4x4. Adjustable RAncho's on front and RAS on back.

Someone is selling 2012 20" F-250 Lariat wheels on Craigslist - would these go on my Excursion? Do I need a two wheel spacer only?

I would go with tires not much larger than stock from a diameter perspective.

Yep youre gonna need the 2" wheel spacers or youre gonna rub at the front leafs and reduce your track by over 3" front and rear. You do not need the full 2"(more like 1 5/8") but the wheel studs are 2" so unless you want to cut all your wheels studs to drop down about 1/2" on your spacer thickness, just get the 2" spacers.

Shameless plug, I got a set of the 2" hubcentric(the real deal safe versions) spacers in the thread pitch you need over in the sale forums.

I don't get it, I read the whole thread, some rub some don't some need spacers some don't. I mean is there a definitive reason to use spacers or not to use them?

Was it a white Dodge Ram by any chance?
