Prodigy is a really good product, but expensive. Get one unless its too much $ for you. I think there is a P2 and P3 depending on application but not sure of the difference, maybe someone else knows more.
My truck came with one, it's the first one I've ever owned so I don't know too much about it. I traced the wires and know the ground is disconnected and the in-line fuse/relay looks toast.
My boat trailer, 8,000 lbs total, has a hydraulic actuated tongue to disk braking system. So, I guess the El. brakes won't work for me anyways ?

that is called a surge brake system.
you do not need an electric brake controller with that system
My motorhome has the OLD dinosaur era hydraulic/electric brake controller, with a steel brake line running through the firewall, from a T on the master cylinder.
usually the difference between the 2 and 3 on most break controllers is the amount of axles it can handle for breaking.
Thats what I thought

could be right... do a little research if you decide on the prodigy. I've got the lower cost one from tekonsha (they make the prodigy), I think the one I have is the voyager... it works good. There are 2 types, one like I had in my 98 cherokee years ago, applies the brakes the same amount wether you Are braking lightly or in a panic stop... that system sucks. Just touch the brake pedal enough to turn on the brake lights and the trailer brakes apply full force. The better systems sense how fast the tow vehicle is braking and apply the trailer brakes accordingly.

As I recall, those worked pretty good. I think thy got phased out because of the possibility of brake fluid leaks.
I put a Tekonsha Voyager into my Ranger when I started towing with it. Moved it to the F250 when I bought the truck. I believe its the precursor to the Prodigy (same company). Never had any problems with it.
Go down to the towing forum, theres a lot of people on there with tons of experience with the different controllers on the market.

lol thats the same exact one that i have. it may just have a wireing issue, i havent looked too closely into it yet.
