1948 Ford Truck oil & temp sending units
All,
Just installed a new wiring harness and have everything functioning including turn signals except the instrument gauges which are not connected yet. My 48 has a standard 302 motor in it. The current oil sending unit is for an indicator light. I'm assuming the temp unit is also. I'm using the original 6 volt gauges (using a voltage reducer as I converted everything else to 12 volts). I've found an 80 lb. oil sending unit at Carpenters and Macsautoparts that seems to match the gauges .
Question1: Will it fit in the 302 port? Do you see any problems?
The temperature sending unit is in the front right side of the manifold. The units at Carpenters and Macsauto are not for insertion in this area.
Question2: Do you have any suggestions?

As I recall, you will need an adapter to put the oil sender in the 302's corresponding port, no big deal.
The flathead style temp sending unit (be sure you don't get the Overheat Switch!) is pretty long, you may need to put a short nipple and adapter on it to space it up off the thermostat housing location on the 302. No big deal either, it will work.
Just to be clear, you want to use the flathead temeprature sending unit that only has one terminal, not the 2-terminal switch.
