I get 12 local and 15 highway. Mine is a 2wd. 10-11 local 13-16 highway. Winter fuel is the low numbers. I do not exceed 65 mph. But you can tow a house full of guest with it.

I have the same gear in a '97 crew cab short box.
I run 265/75's(wider than the 235/85 stocks)
Put on a K&N intake, but otherwise stock.

9-10 local short trips

12-14.5 on long trips.

I just pulled my motor to put on headers and exhaust, and replace all gaskets.(had some leaks at 208K)

I am also removing every piece of emissions equipment I possible can without messing up the computer.

When I get done, I'll be posting a bunch of pics and the story in the older pickup forum.

I have 4:10's in my 96 F250. I do have a 5 speed manual though. I drive 20 miles each way to work and I average 15 Mpg's keeping her at 55 mph. I am also running 265/75's,
I have an exhaust system and I advanced the timing a bit. Getting ready to put amsoil throughout the entire truck. We will see If I pull off better mpg's!

How much did you retard the timing and how did you do it?

You mean advance the base ignition timing?

You loosen the distributor clamp and very slightly rotate the distributor. Search on it here, plenty of info to read.
