PI to NPI swap
Hello,.......OK so I searched my topic, but really couldnt find any staright answer to my ?,and i dont have time to keep looking,so i apologize if there is a post with specific instructions to my ? i just could not find it,so with being said im gonna ask a simple question hoping for a simple answer. Please save me the "I would have used a ___ instead" to yourself. If $ was not an issue,"I would have went with something diffrent"
I have a 2002 F150 XLT Triton 2X2 with 4.6L PI Windsor that just took a crap on me.
Money being the MAJOR issue for me right know,i was left with no other option but to purchase a 1998 4.6 NPI Windsor out of a F150 for basically almost nothing. They even gave me the WHOLE wire harness i mean every single wire harness out of the truck including computer/brain ect ect
Yes i know im losing "Horsepower" and am going backwards instead of Forward but i had no choice so be it.
What Exactly will i have to change to complete the swap?
-Can i use the orignal COP's?Or do i have to use the Coil Packs with the new motor?
-Since my truck has the stock PI tune, will i have to get a new "tune"for it to run correct with the NPI motor?
-Do i have to relocate the ECT sensor or change any other sensors,ECT?
-Please provide me with any and all exact details this sawp inquire's?
Thank you for your help,i appreciate it VERY MUCH and yes if had the $ i would have did a DIESEL swap NOT a lightning or Harley but money being the rude of all evil i was left with no other choice so Thankyou very much

Here is what you really wanted to know about the head swap.
A The NPI motor has open chambers in the head and a piston volume design to make the their spec CR.
B. The PI heads are somewhat closed and an increase in piston volume to attain the spec CR.
If you cross a PI on a NIP motor, the CR may go over 10 to 1 and become a problem with spark knock due to the PCM program having to aggressive ignition curve, not matching.
This comes about from the smaller piston crown dish volume on the NPI engine with the smaller PI chambers.
You are playing with an engineered system so need to know what likely will happen and what you do about it, then it may stiil present some issues.
Intake manifiolds may not interchange.
The exhaust ports are a different shape as well between the two.
All this info is on the internet.
These engines have had so many production changes in design over the years that you don't know what you have until it comes apart.
Good luck.
