f250 tires

I just bought a 97 F250 HD 5.8 Reg cab. It has the stock tires on it, and they seem tall and skinny to me . I dont know if its just me being used to seeing 295's on my lightning or what. Im trying to see if any one is running a wider and lower profile tire on the stock 16 inch aluminum wheel . It would still have to be an LT tire. Pics would be nice. Not opposed to an aftermarket wheel and tire combo either.

Stock is 235/85/16. I run 265/75/16, while some people will use 285/75/16s, although front bumper clearance may become an issue with these.

yes stock is the famous "pizza cutters" 235/85R16.

I have 265/75's on my 4x4 F250.

but after restoration, I am going back to stock 235/85 as I love the looks of tall skinny tires on tall trucks.

Arrow Rubber side down please !!!

My F 250 is 2 wheel drive (really 1 wheel, no posi) and I run 265-75-16 load range "E" (10 ply) on 16X10 alloys at full ,80 psi, Hankook at/m's. They ride and drive very well, but I have been told I would get better MPG with skinnier tires ... I can not tell a lie ...I did it for the looks and still get 14 + hwy. If you are going to haul a good load with your truck go for the 10 ply/E load rating. 1 1/2 years and 12,500+ mi. still min. wear. !!! Good Luck ... Dave

There are, IMO, more real world offroad situations where a skinny semi aggressive tire is better than wide flotation tires.

unless you have a 9,000 lb diesel. then the skinny tires get you stuck on wet grass.
my 88 likes a 37 X 12.5 tire.

Thanks for the info. I think I might wait and try to find some 8 or 10 inch wide wheels and get some really wide low profiles for it. I just havent seen the combo Im looking for in pictures of f250's. Gas mileage is really not an issue , because Ive been getting 10 in town with the lightning for the past 6 years anyway. It has a 3:55 in it so I was trying to get a shorter tire to scrub off some gearing and gain better looks too. I just put twin cone filters on it last night and couldnt believe the difference in power. It really woke it up. It sounds like it has Quadrajet on it. I just cant leave anything alone.

Neither can the rest of us on FTE ... that's why we're here. I wanted a "wider" stance on my truck so 10 X 16 were my choice. It has a 8800 gvwr and "sits" up like a 4x4 ... but I don't mind too much ... better views going down the road. Choose well you'll have them for a while.

Im going to go look at some 17x10 eagle alloys with 295/70/17 tires on them. The price is good ,But I dont think they will fit the front with wheels turned. Im not opposed to doing a 1 to 1.5 spring spacer and spacing the bumper forward , I dont want go higher. Has anyone put this combo on there f250 2wd? Have any pics? Going to go look at them tomorrow. The wheels are 10 inches wide so I assume they will stick out and swing right into bumper.
