5.4 V8 Oil Filter Removal problems !
Whenever animals and motor vehicles try and occupy the same space, there's always stories of woe.
A 170# whitetail peeled a friends Firebird hood back like a sardine can... yikes.
I just did an oil change on my 03 5.4 4x4...
I had this line of posts on my mind while doing so~
I'm not sure what its like on a 2WD F150, but I just reach in
through the front (over the front crossmember) and unscrew it....
I mean, its right there, staring at me...easy to get at...easy to see.

My 2002 SuperCrew 5.4 2wd only has 1700 miles on it. After reading this post I am regretting the first oil change. I bought an oil filter relocation kit (Perma-Kool) and I assume it will work on my truck. I bought it to put on my daily driver (2001 New Beetle) because changing the oil filter on it is a PAIN. Has anyone installed a filter relocation kit in their F150?

No, not yet. But I am interested in it.
I was thinking the factory one would have been much better if they had located it inside the frame rail instead of outside.
But don't think about getting the factory parts from the dealer as they are over $450!!
I was thinking of trying to find a used one and mounting it so it sits between the front two framerails. Maybe even get the oil cooler.

Climb in the engine bay, unscrew and change everything, from the top...no mess, no fuss. I was spoiled by that.

Well, I changed it again last night. It wasn't as difficult this time, as I knew what to expect. But, the oil filter is still a "pain". Luckily, I didn't put the filter on, too tight, last time. Was able to get the filter out w/o spilling oil all over everything and didn't even need stitches!
