Questions on 76 or 77 highboy

I'm looking at either a 1976 or 77 f250 4x4 dually dump truck
It currently has Dana 44 front and drw Dana 60 rear so it's a 3/4 ton
It has a t18 I'm pretty sure with dual pto covers and a 351m
Yet owner says it's a 76
How hard would it be to swap in a 360/390
And would an Fe bellhousing mate to a t18 and still use sane clutch and input shaft
Thanks
Also is a dually 60 rear factory with a are Dana 44

Ok there are several red flags here. First F350s have DRWs not F250s unless someone has swapped in a new rear axle/susp and either modified or got a new bed. Assuming the 351m wasn't swapped into an earlier model, it sounds like it was either a 77 F250 4x4 and was converted to DRW (my guess), or a 77-79 F350 2wd and was converted to 4x4.
No 351m/400 in FSeries until 77.
F250 4x4s came with D44 (D60 optional) front and D60 rear axles.
Does it have a divorced transfer case?
Ask for the vin# and door tag info, that'll tell you just exactly what it started life as.

While I am a fan of the FE engines, if you have a 351m it would be easier and you'd get more for your dollar by swapping in a 429/460. It'll bolt right up to your current bellhousing.

Welcome to the forum!

Thank you for your response
it is a f250 4x4 with a divorced 205
its probably hacked together as a 3/4 ton dump truck cause it is from a local farm
if motor is bad, (been sitting and has leaking rear main) then i would look into 460 swap
all you need for one is a motor mounts(l & l), flywheel and clutch if not with motor, and alt. brackets right?
would keep it stock motor with 4 barrel and manifolds/straightpipe duals
would be used for stock class truck pulling and plowing/winter driving
would a 351m hold it own in a truck pull with 256/262 cam, headers, and 4 barrel
thanks again

High Boys: 1967/76 F250 4WD, 1977 F250 4WD before serial number Y20,001.

Warner T-18's were only installed in 2WD's, New Process 435 installed in both 4WD & 2WD's.

1965/79 4WD available engines. 1965/67: 240/300 I-6 & 352 / 1968/74: 240/300 I-6 & 360 / 1975/76: 300 I-6 & 360 / 1977/79: 300 I-6 & 351M & 400.

The 4th digit of the VIN is the engine code: 1977/79 F150/250 4WD & 1979 F350 4WD: B = 300 I-6 / H = 351M / S = 400.

Ford did not offer F250's with DRW until 1985, and then only thru 1986. 460's were not available with 4WD or M/T until 1983, F350's initially only.

High Boys available as a Cab & Chassis, Regular Cab & Crew Cab, Styleside & Flareside Beds, factory installed Flat & Stake Beds.

A High Boy Dump Truck would have been sold new as a Cab & Chassis, with the Dump section added after it left the factory.

.38-55 WCF ~ WRA Model 1885 "Highwall" & Model 1894 thru 1909, special order afterwards thru 1924.

I've searched how to id a t18 and it has a has dual pro covers
does a np435 have duals as well
just gathering info for a future project
i have seen some highboy and f150s 4x4s with t18
don't know if they were factory or not
heard they have a6.32-1 granny vs the 435's 6.69-1
both are low enough were one has no distinct advantage over the other
any know if sigma still makes 7.50-16 power kings
every website says that they are back ordered
where can i get Specialty Tires of America tires
i didn't get a response from them
thanks

T-18 = The shift lever retainer cap (8MTH-7220) is threaded. When the cap is removed, a roll pin is revealed within the threads that retains the shift lever in place.

1965/79: PTO cover located on left (drivers) side of case.
--------------------------------------------------------
1965/79: NP435: PTO cover located on right (passenger) side of case.

NP435 = The shift lever retainer cap (B8T-7220-D) has two notches, is held in place by two pins that protrude from the tower.

To remove this spring loaded cap, it must be pressed down and held down while turning it...to remove it.

Peeps are unaware, use pliers to remove it...which tears out one or both of the notches. Not pleasant, cuz now they aren't going anywhere until they replace the damaged cap.

Which is why I highlighted the Ford part number for the little charmer...because this is a somewhat common occurrence.

btw: The 6 1/4" x 4 7/8" PTO cover (BB-7165) is the same for both the NP435 & Warner T-18, even though they're on opposing sides of the cases and are different makes of trannies.

Check the casting #s on the transmission, with dual pto covers you may have a T19. Is the shifter tower aluminum or case iron.

Don't know the casting number, vin and can't go look at truck
sick now
just wanted to know what the truck is made of
and what i can do with it cheap
won't get around to it until spring if not at all
it is a rust bucket, but could pick up cheap and scrap dumpy body and homemade bumper for about the cost of the truck it self

i think I'm all set with any questions for now
thanks for the quick responses

The VIN contains no trans info. The TRANS code is stamped on the Warranty Plate, which is located on the left door face below the latch.

A = New Process 435 / F = Borg Warner T-18.

Borg Warner T-19 not offered until 1979, F350 2WD only.
