Sorry brother ...I only did this because I know and trust you guys!
To the rest of you..I shouldn't be, but I'm pleasantly overwhelmed with the feedback! I agree about the stock comments, no one has beat them up as much. He's not a new driver..24, so I think some of the stupidity has grown out . I thought the 4.0 straight 6 was the good motor I'd heard about. All great advice we will head. You guys are the best..Thanks!!

[QUOTE=Furyus1;11347978]Plus, those Jeepsters were AMC-made, not Chrysler...

QUOTE]

I think the one we have is Kaiser-made; didn't AMC buy Jeep about '71-'72? Grandpa has a '72 Commando in the back 40 that is totally hammered, and sorry to say I like the looks of the 66-70 Jeepsters alot better than what AMC did to them before killing off Jeepsters entirely.

****** was sold to Kaiser Motors in 1953. It became Kaiser-Jeep in 1963. American Motors Corporation (AMC) purchased Jeep in 1970.

I was never crazy about the looks of the AMC Jeepster either and they weren't all that rugged... A friend of my dads creamed one side of the Commando with his Bronco while they were out on a beer-fueled excursion - it did far more damage to the Jeepster than it did to the Bronco...

I just got my 94 YJ a few months ago. I use it all the time around town. It is all stock, all wiring is intact, no rust, and has 175,000 miles. I love it. It is the next best thing to a motorcycle. Tell me anything that is safe and I will say it is boring. One of my friends got upset because I traded my bike for it. He told me I better keep the doors on it because Jeeps are not safe. (And a motorcycle is?)

Mine is going to stay mostly stock for now. It does okay on fuel for me, but it is not a highway runner. You also feel every bump, but it does not matter since it is so much fun.

Biggest pieces of crap out there. If your just gonna fool around off road or on weekends, fine. But for an everyday driver I would not want my kid to ride around in one of those. Poor economy, poor quality; I wouldn't reccomend them for a beginner drivers for the same reasons others have stated. An early one would be a lot better as far as maintaining it and using it off road, before Chrysler bought em. We used to use a 1978 CJ5 with the 258 in it to plow and to do various odd jobs at work. That thing was great, bulletproof drivetrain and was very easy to work on. It still ran but was too rusty to be safe to operate. If he insists on getting one, at least get the hardtop version. Driving around in a tent is not fun.......

I had an `00 Wrangler for a few years. It had the six cylinder w/5-speed and it never gave me a lick of trouble. They're very easy to maintain and fun to drive but in my case just not very practicle. I sold mine and got an `03 Ranger.

I think it would be fair to throw in my $0.02 and say "Get a Bronco instead". Or an Xplorer.

I realize this is GAC but seriously, it seems we have some closet Chrysler fanatics here

Someone protests to much.

Must be a ton of deep chrysler issues. We are not that far off topic from Ford since they have roots in the Jeep.
