Home made TB spacer?

I am thinking of making one for my V10. The spacer seems simple enough... but what about the spiral part inside?

IMHO - the spacer is too short for that "spiral" to do anything more than just "disrupt" the air flow, there is no way that kind of pitch can have any real spiraling effect on the air.

So, anyone think the TB spacer itself offers the benefit, not the spiral part inside?

I could aways add a spiral design with a die grinder after the thing is made - but is it really gonna help?

thanks

Well, there is no money involved. I can have the basic spacer built in an hour or so... the only part time consuming would be adding the spirals and installing it

And the issue of whether or not it is a gimmick is the main reason I would be making my own, instead of spending the $100+ on a commercially available one

But thanks for the input

Home made TB spacer?

i dont think the spiral does a thing. As far as the spacer goes i think that it would lower your torque curve in your rpm. Im going dyno it very soon.

Now we're getting somewhere! Do share once you get a dyno done... Is that your only mod? Do you have dyno results before the spacer so you can compare the gains from *just* that mod? Thanks

The only mod i have is dual exhaust. Im going to dyno my truck like this first. Im then going to add headers alone and do another dyno for a company doing testing. Then im going to make a cold air induction, dyno it and i'll add the tb spacer and make another pull and see what happens.

Can you do me a favor? I could pull my TB off, but if you could get me the dimentions of the spacer you have, and some info on the estimated pitch of the "spirals" in the bores... I would appreciate it muchly

I am partial to the thinking that the air disruption is the key. Think of it this way, if you aded a half of an inch to the lenght of the intake it should'nt have much effect. Now if you disrupt the air in the intake, you are geting air in a more even flow into the cylenders that are farether away from the input. But thats just my opinion.

DRM, This is MikeW from the PBB, however I made my own back in high school machine shop, and run it on my Bronco with 302.

I can explain how it was made if you are interested.
