Silver Lake Dunes Michigan

Any of the members here planning on going to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes over Memorial Day weekend? If you are, look for the truck pictured to the left there and say HI!!

Also, if there are many here that would like to go some time we should organize an FTE Dunes weekend this summer.

Don't think I can make a trip before the kid hits the ground. But I should have the upstairs completed by that time so I will have to see.

You should organize a GR Fellas weekend at your place - we'll knock the upstairs out in a day or so and then watch the race.

Ive never been up there with a truck but ive rode 4 wheelers and dirtbikes up there. I would reccomend not going on a holiday weekend because you can wait in line for about 4 hours just trying to get in the parking lot. But if you do get there a couple days before and buy parking vouchers (if thir selling them). Also there will be a ton of people the best time to go is during the week you will have the place to yourself.

Just my $0.02

I have been going to the dunes for about 15 years... and yeah, the lines can suck, and the whole voucher system is stupid.. but at the end of the day, it's a lot of fun. We go on off weekends as well, and you can get a lot more drive time in, but Holiday weekends are a lot of fun. Unless your tie rod breaks on entrance hill, life is good!

The line can be part of the fun if it's done right. I was told they added a second entrance, which would help things alot.

What i think they should do is create a truck entrance. Because if your not hauling a trailer you wouldnt have to wait to get in the parking lot. Maby the could divide the exit in half and have a truck entrance lane. Once i get my truck done I want to take it up there but its about 6 hours away from me and only getting about 9 to 10 miles to the gallon I would have to trailer it there with my dads powerstroke. It would cost hundreds of dollars in fuel to get there if i took my truck.

If we want to make an FTE get together, yes, a non holiday weekend would be best. Just to throw a date out there, what if we scheduled an FTE get together at the dunes June 27-29?

Heck - BRING your wife! The dunes are only hard on a truck if the driver is. You can go up an have a lot of fun and be good to your truck. I have a buddy that brings a 79 4-door Ford.. 2 wheel drive! And he goes everywhere he wants. If you want to get all four tires off the ground, take a ride with me!
