Radiator electric fan

I have been going to the junkyard alot lately looking for a manual tranny. Since i'am already there I was thing about picking up an electric fan. Just wonder what vehicle would be best to pull one from and if i need to pull anything else. Thanks.

Oh 360 engine c-6 tranny if that matters.

1993 to 1998 Lincoln mark VIII. They pull like over 3000 cfm. You need the correct wiring harness / relay to go with it though. Two speed fan. Oh, and while your at it could you pull the motor and tranny for me.

2x with f100today. Also include the T-bird/Taurus dual fan to the list. Here's a really good article for information: Electric Radiator Fans - Car Craft Magazine

I suggest first doing the 3G 130-amp alternator swap before swapping in these high-amp fans. Your rig's headlights will definitely dim if the fans kick on with a stock alternator.

Priorty shipping or express. I guess I will do the alternator first I, remember see an article for this some where. I will have to do some research. Is the harness and temperature sensor hard/practical to pull is it easier to buy the kit. Thanks.

Found this under alternator upgrade. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ctric-fan.html
Some good info in here.

fan

Sir, One other option is the c/v Merc. Lincoln, if you still have the truck shroud ,the fan shroud from one of these also has a 2 speed fan that can be adapted by cutting the shroud apart and mounting it inside of the truck shroud, also the fan motors are available at NAPA and are easy to replace. I have one of these set ups on my 67 Ford XL powered by a 4.6 four cam from a MK8 using the PCM fron a 98 Cobra . Never goes over 205 in traffic with ac here in New Orleans .Just like everyone else said start with the 130 amp alternator. There are several thermostat controllers from SPAHL to operate the fan relays. You can tell a fan has 2 speeds if it has 3 wires feeding it. Good luck Kenny

Do you have a pic? Actually I just adpated a fan shroud 70s truck. I was working on my truck last week and without thinking tossed the orginnal shroud on ther ground and it broke in half. The one I got from the junkyard had to have the height cut down to fit. It might be nice to have a new fan. Thanks.

Picked a fan from a 98 lincoln towne car today, could not find a mark VIII. It measures 18 inchs across like the mark VIII. Set it on the ground with flow going in to the air, when I hooked up high it start to move across the ground like a hover craft. That thing really puts out the air. Also picked up a 3g alternator for power. Tomorrow I should finish header install and then on to the 3g and fan.

Anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram for a 98 lincoln markVIII, towne car or tarsus, thanks

With the huge frontal opening in these trucks, that much air is blowing through there when the truck is moving forward. The only time a fan is needed is when the truck is sitting still idling for a long period of time and the temps are very high.

manual switch option?

run one in a truck and have a manual switch setup. but need a 50 amp switch to do this. 30 amp will work for awhile but will fail. have failed 2 switches and eventually found a 50amp switch to handle the load from cab. simple option that works. relay set up is another through thermastat. alternator upgrade as mentioned is a must!!!!

I don't think the Town Car fan is as popular as the Taurus, T-bird, Mark VIII fans, but it should work.

I have a Sable (Taurus) fan in my truck and I love it. This is how mine is wired. It cuts off power to the low when the high is energized. Thats one thing you have to make sure of when you wire it up, that the low and high don't get power at the same time. Like John stated above it only comes on when I need it, it makes for a nice quicker heater warm up on cold mornings! I also have done the 3g alternator upgrade.

I like the fan but the housing sets the fan at a slight angle I do't like. I'm going to mod. so it will sit flat on the radiator. Looks like the on the mark VIII would be easier to mount. Where did you get your cont. relay for the circuit, thanks.

Where are you guys hooking up your green wire for your 3g alternator.

I got the 12 volt 80 amp continuous duty relay from ebay for $12, but they seem to have went up some. This one is higher amps than mine but it's fine to use a higher amp one.

As for the green wire, I'm not sure on bump side trucks, but on our dent sides it ties into the factory green/red stripe on the passenger side firewall. I don't know if the factory wire in the older truck is green/red stripe too. I'm sure someone who has done the 3g upgrade in a bump side will chime in soon.

Ok found a green /red that goes to the voltage reg, no longer needed I'm assuming that is the one your are using. Thanks for ebay listing may go that route seems popular. I was kind of hoping to get one from a parts strore locally if possible, thanks.

Was also wondering if i pull some relays for the fan operation how can I tell what ampage they are.

I just pulled relays from Tauruses (sp??) Because the low setting doesn't draw that much power and the high setting relay is just kicking on the solenoid so all that power is going through the solenoid not the relay.

But to answer your question IDK how you would be able to tell what amperage they are unless it's marked on them.

I was just wondering I pulled a relay box out of the lincoln I got the fan from. I plan on using it for wiring in the fan so It will have a more clean look. It had 3 5 prong relays and a 4 prong relay. Tried to cross them off a ford parts site with no luck. I'm guess the 4 prong can used according to wiring diagrams I've seen on the net. Must be high amp since the prongs are rather large. Guess I'll just hook up and see if they get hot and carry extra's. Thanks.
