Red face At Dealership - Expy on its way out the Door!

$25750 trade-in

We are leasing a 2012 Flex Limited. Losing a little space in the back, but I'm okay with that. Looked at new short Expies and couldn't stomach paying another $40,000 to have it rust again.

Should sign the final papers in about 1 hour

Which dealer? Cutter, Honolulu, or Windward?

I have the best service at Cutter.

Congrats and post some pics later.

BTW have you seen the 6 door Excursion in Town? I saw it again today.

I may need a new work truck soon too.

I refuse to step onto the Honolulu Ford lot...bunch of Special Ed jerks over there.

Signed the papers finally and drove her home. Picked it up at Cutter Ford in Aiea. I can't believe they gave me $25,750 for the Expy. She only had 24,606 miles at trade-in. This is the Dealership that was handling the whole rusting roof claim. Incidentally, the Rust damage has pretty much quadroupled on the Expy. There was a 2"x3" section missing with bare metal showing...oh wait, I'm sorry that isn't rust according to Ford

It's a 2012 Flex Limited. Leather, Navigation, backup Camera, DVD Headrests, Vista View Roof, and all sorts of freaky powered seats that flip/fold and otherwise scared the bejesus out of me when I was pushing buttons.

All said, I'm happy the deal so far. It's a 3yr lease that I can walk away from when I transfer back to the Lower 48. Hopefully then the new Expeditions will be out with a 5.0/EB/6.2...if we even want anything bigger.
So far the Lie-O-Meter is saying 22.8 MPG with the 40 mile mixed speed cruise we took to check it out.

Sadly it has the 3.5 Duratech motor...no Ecoboost. Ecoboost models are pretty much non-existent. Still pretty peppy with the 6 speed though.

Congrats Tylus - sounds like you did not do bad on the Expy, but sux that you had all of those problems with it. I look forward to hearing your feedback on the Flex. This may be a contender for us next - but not really sure, I really love the Expy. Congrats again, Mike.

Initial impressions of the Flex are amazing

Decent power - it's obviously missing the V-8 grunt down low, but once you get a few RPM, she gets moving pretty darn quick. No slouch, especially with 6 gears

Good/Great MPG's - Lie 'o Meter is saying 19 MPG right now with the same driving as we use the Expy for. That's 7-8 MPG better (11-12 mpg Expy) than we're used to...BONUS!

Space - Can't lie, it's smaller. But managable. I had a Durango before the Expy. The Flex is easily bigger. It seats 7 okay, 6 very comfortably.

Ammenities - WOW! I thought my 08 Expy was pretty cool. This 2012 Flex has gadgets and features out the rear...litterally. I'm still discovering the stuff it can do. While you can live without these, they really do make the driving experience better.

Time will tell how I truly feel about this vehicle. But for now it's looking like we're going to have a great 3 yrs together. For anyone who doesn't use their Expy to tow, and only need the space for passengers, I really suggest they check out a Flex...it does have a 4,500 lbs Class III hitch if you need light duty stuff though.. I scoffed at the idea of one years back, now I'm kinda kicking myself

To be honest, I was so mad at Ford over the paint that I looked at Chevy and Dodge. Either too much $$$, or it's a Fiat. I really considered a R/T Durango, but just couldn't.

Wife was really pushing for a Honda Odessy. NO!

Really only left me Ford. I leased because I'm doubtful of Ford paint quality. Hopefully that was a good decision. I like that I can just walk away if there are issues. Just have to keep it pretty. I'm pretty good at that

Just curious what amenities it has that your Expy didnt have.

2008 Expy EL Limited - Power Fold Mirrors, A/C seats...far as I can tell, the Flex is missing those only, but it gains those listed below

Flex - Sync, Navigation/DVD radio, the trans downshifts to maintain speed going down hills, HID lowbeams with halogen high beams, power folding 3rd row seat (Expy had also), power folding 2nd row seat

There is more, but those are the biggies. I had put a aftermarket radio and DVD setup into my Expy, but it was never as nice/seamless as the OEM Sync setup works.

finally got a pic or 2 and our first tank of gas through the Flex. 17.1 MPG hand calculated with the exact same driving as we typically did using the Expy

still confused by the Sync system. Just so many things it can do...but I'm getting there.

not really missing the Expy though. I might more when the kids are older, but the 3yr olds and the 2yr old are fitting inside pretty well right now. We even let the 8yr old buckle the twins...so the smaller confines are her problem not mine

I feel like a traitor, but I feel the Flex is a good alternative to the Expy...especially if you just need the seating.

Congrats dude! I was certain that you were going to divorce Ford over the roof rusting debacle and who could blame you.

Nice ride btw. The 3.5L is no slouch and will run like hell for along time.

I was leary of it because V-6's and I hate each other. The trans really does a good job. I miss the V-8 idle torque, but that's really my only complaint
