Powertrains and gas mileage in our trucks
I've been spending a lot of time researching powertrain routes, and I've come to find there are just so many variables it's ridiculous to find anything real concrete of what to expect, especially when you factor in the shape of our trucks with gas mileage.
So I though it would a good idea to have an information bank of "real world" numbers to help get a better idea of what to expect from any option in our trucks to help take a lot of the guess work out. There is a lot of information out there, but it's very difficult to find out what you would expect to see from from your truck from an engine in a completely different vehicle. Aerodynamics can effect a lot. And a few MPG's might really mean a world of a difference to someone's route.
So, post what engine and transmission you're running and let us know what you've seen for gas mileage out of it in your truck (be sure to list your year of truck as well as they are shaped differently). And if there where any unique problems to using that set up. And your opinion of it if you'd like as well or any other information (the more the better). I think if we put it in a simple set up like below, it would help with having to read through a tremendous amount (I go through old posts a whole lot trying to find information and it takes a whole lot longer to sift through things when it's not easy to spot, thus I think it would be helpful to anyone in the future doing a search):
1. Engine
2. Transmission
3. Gas mileage (city/highway)
4. Year of truck
And then anything else you'd like to add. ^_^

F1 with a mild sbc, t5 five speed overdrive, 3.55 rear axle and 28" tall rear tires. A tick under 16 mpg with the stock 1406 edelbrock carb. I live at over 6000 ft and just leaned the carb one step but haven't checked mpg since the change. That mpg is a mix of driving without regard to mileage.

Been done a couple of times, maybe you can add these to a database?

I am lining up all the parts for a T5 trans swap, so a little insight I can provide. I'll take a full tank before and give you the miles/gallons method for both a stock T8 crash box and a T5 - though it will take some time. (I just got my 225/75/16 shoes on and accurized the speedometer & odometer, so no figures from before - sorry)
Stephen, if you'd like to share the data when it gets to a postable thuroughness, I'd be happy to format it up in a nice chart and post here/ host it on my www space.

Previous configuration:
1956 F100
1964 289 w/ Holley 4bbl and Edelbrock performer 289 manifold
1964 C-4 trans
1965 HD 9" differential w/ 3.0:1 gears
16 mpg @ 65 mph with 275/50-15 rear tires
Hoping to at least match that with the addition of Edelbrock heads and cam and going from a 26" diameter tire to a 28" diameter tire.

5mpg out of a 460? Damn, I was hoping someone would get at least 10 out of theirs, lol.
I'm going to have to figure something out to be able to actually use my truck as a daily driver.
Keep em coming, I check the other two topics last night and after the second page they pretty much stopped with any such input and became debates :\
