1988 F250? Worth it?
Hello,
I'm new here and i'm in the market for a truck, I found a 1988 f250 that I might be able to buy. Here are some of the specs
Gas V8 engine, 70000 original miles, single cab, 4x4, auto transmission, camper package, gooseneck ready.
It has surface rust on the top of the cab and hood and the paint is peeling.
Interior of truck- seat is ripping and mats are ripping, ***** missing
The brakes don't seem to be getting any pressure (RABS?)
The truck runs great and starts fast.
Any comments, I'm thinking of asking $500-$1000
Is that too much or too little?

i think 1000-1200. 70000 miles. idk being and 88 with a 5 digit tach its probably 170000 or 270000 and hes trying to pass it off as 70000. with the interior being that ruough i think it has more than 70000. you cant tell from hthe body how many miles. could be just from sitting out and not being moved around. i wouldnnt believe that its that low miled.

An 88 F250 could come with pretty much any engine Ford offered for trucks at that time.
As for having a V8, it could be a 5.0 302, 5.8 351w, or 7.5 460.
Personally, I like the 351 because it's a good all around motor and there is a ton of aftermarket parts for them. They also get decent MPGs.
The 5.0...well it was a really good idea in a mustang, but in a 3/4 ton truck, I don't think it belongs. Doesn't put out enough power for my liking.
The 460 is a powerhouse of a motor, It will pull anything you put behind it, but it will only get about 8 miles to the gallon.
One way that I use to tell the amount of mileage on a motor, is to look at the break pedal. If it only has 70k on it, the bottom right corner of the pedal should still look like the rest of the pedal. If it has 170k, the corner will be smooth as a baby's bottom.
