$500 running Cummins = buy it. At the very least you could flip it for some spare cash. As Joe said, if you want to get more power the Cummins is better than ther IDI. It does not reach a limit like the IDI does. Lot of people putting Cummins into later model Fords to get rid of 6.0/6.4 powerchokes.

The computer is for controlling the intake heaters and the auto trans if it had one. It all depends what you want out of it, to simply swap stock for stock, not really much of a change for the money you have to spend on either buying conversion parts or for the parts you have to fabricate. If you want to keep your driveling as is, you will spend $600 easily on the adapter plate and such, and have to get a powerstroke starter. If you do minimal fabricating, expect to drop over $1000 for just parts. But if you can buy it for $500, you can easily double your money.

No computer crap to worry about with the 12V. Hook up a couple batteries to it and go...you can hook the grid heater up to a switch just like you can with the glow plugs on these IDI's and for $500 you better get that thing even if it's not in running conditon. That's a steal. P-pump setups go for around 1k alone off them so. Nice thing bout these motor's is stud and o-ring the head, drop some 110# valve springs and billet pushrods in it and your good to go to spin 4k RPM's, handle 80psi of boost, and handle 900-1000hp if you really wanted to haha. Bottom end is good for 1000hp. Just a little info for ya.
