DT360 or DT466 swap?
#16
Seriously? Do you even know what you are talking about? Both DT engines in question are Capable of over 1000hp with just a IP and turbo. Try that with a 5.9 cummins.

Dt360 will out last, out run, and out pull a 5.9 cummins. Proven time and time again at drag and sled pulls.
The swap is roughly the same cost give or take $500. Which is worth it for longevity.
The dt360 according to hypermax will handle well into 2000hp.
Cummins is a fluke compared to a real international Diesel.

even a blind retarded monkey with no hands and 2 broken legs can put one in something and make it run.
you need a little bit of intelligence to make power out of a navistar or international engine

Can also use the ZF6 which seems to be the more preferred in the community for these motors. They also have several 8 Speed trannsmissions and 10 speeds, but that is for towing purposes. For an auto the 4R100 is preferred as it tends to be a little better than the E4OD when built right. But yes it does require an adaption plate, etc,etc to run such as a electronic controlled shifter since the ECM cannot tell it when to **** and so on and so on.
It is alot more difficult than a Cummins swap but it is so worth the extra time and tweaking to get SOOOOOOOOO much more for the money. Like i said, i could have a motor that puts out 800hp plus with mostly stock parts and installed for 10k? that gets 15mpg?? mmmm, and i know wont blow up after 100k miles?? mmmmm, haha, u decide which would be the better buy lol. Unless you like easy (i hate the somon fummins) SOO over rated and they are SOO cocky!

Those are big HP #'s your quoting. I'm not questioning it, because I don't know. When you set up a DT to get 800 HP how much torque do you get?? I am not impressed with my ZF 5 trans and would think that it would last 2-3 months with that much power in front of it. How long does a transfer case last with that much going thru it??
My 60 series Detroit only delivers 500 ponies and moves 96,000 lbs quite well. Then again it has 1600 ft/lbs of torque.

It depends on the timing in this motor. TIMING IS EVERYTHING.... only other thing you have to worry about is amount of fuel and amount of PSI you push. With those 3 taken care of on this motor and you have alot to look forward too. Going by others numbers, the guy who built the one i am looking at puts out ~500hp and 900tq or something like that. But that was with timing it at 19 or something rediculously low! Hypermax and those top notch companies say start at 32 and move up from there. Figure with every degree he said and several others have said its difference of about 30hp and 50tq or something close to that. But his the motor was not built to sled pull, he wanted more top end vs. low end. Which he got, if he had it set for towing im sure the numbers would have a MUCH larger gap. It is a beautiful swap!

the dt is a better motor than a cummins, there is no doubt. its been shown over and over like brad said. . .the problem lies in availability of the dt series motors, along with cost. unless you find one hellofa deal (most people cannot, some people are in a position where the motors are more available to them than others so it just makes sense to go DT) then a cummins is easier to find and would be a cheaper swap. the dt is a better motor, like i said. . .but if you werent exceeding 500 hp you'd never know the difference between the two. if you want to build a monster, there is no easier or reliable route than a dt. if you want a dt cuz its one of the greatest motors ever made, then by all means fire away and dont look back. but the fact that there are so many cummins in so many different applications makes them much more available. their availability combined with their respectable strengths is what makes them so appealing for a swap candidate. there are tons of idiots that think that their cummin"G"s is the greatest thing that ever hit the planet and dont even know how a diesel works. . .but there are also plenty of enthusiasts of all things nice who own/swap cummins for their drivers.
all that bein said, a dt powered OBS ford is in my future. i just bought a dt408 powered chassis at an ole farm auction for close to nothin. felt guilty. . .

Well the gentleman who was building after modifying his motor a bit was increasing 30hp per degree, he has numbers and spreads to prove it from the dyno, but it was only up to a certain point than it gradually reduced to about 15-20 per degree.
I am thinking of a DTA360 not so much a DT as i heard they are a bit more stable. I am honestly not sure why as all i heard was it was a difference of one being after cooled and the other not. Either way if i get lucky a california series comes with a P-pump from 1992 and 1993 lol.
I want to do this swap in a 97 F350 personally or a 94 and swap it withe IDI. Would be much cheaper!!! But i still need the motor and parts and all the draw ups to get this thing on its way.
Anyone know any write ups of the DT360 being swapped into a 92-97 F250 or F350? I just prefer that body style.
I found one on an 2004 F350 Dually but no luck with what i want.. go figure HAHAHA!

i know where there is a 53" f350 flatbed for $350 cash
it has a Y block in it now but just how cool would it be with a DT under the hood??
maybe i'll go see the old guy who has it once the snow melts.
i'm unloading 4 rustbucket old trucks this week ( have to make room for new toys) please post pictures if you start this project Rocka
take care

Will do, Thanks for the support. Just have to get the truck first than i'll start the drawing board and measurements. Hard to find a non dually IDI quad cab in central florida. Alot of them are duallys and i have no intention of doing more work than i have to for what i desire haha.
Dually's are nice and all but i like the straight look all the way down... Still got my first truck which is my 95' f150 with the 300 six. Love the style of it but want it in crew cab.
Let me know if you start as well, maybe it can be a joint project or something.

dually trucks .....i feel they are over rated. most of the guys that have them almost never use them. yes yes yes i know a few but i said most.
