No spark?

Well, tried to start my truck and after some time figured out I'm not getting any spark. Very disappointed I was hoping it would start right up. I ran some fine sandpaper through where the points connect and am hoping this will help because being as old as they are they must be corroded. If that doesn't help I will check the coil next and after that I don't know what I will do. I'll probably get it figured out and am just updating where I'm at with my project but If you have any ideas post them.

Do you have a test light? See if you are getting power to the coil. With ignition on test the small post on the side that doesn't go to the distributor. If no power there you need to trace it back to the ignition switch to find the fault....If power there, pull the dist. cap and rotor and rotate engine til you are sure points are fully closed. With ignition to 'on' position, separate the points with a screwdriver or a stick and you should see a spark there. Better yet, pull the coil wire out of the center of the dist cap and place it about 1/8" from a suitable ground (cyl head etc). When you separate the points manually you should see a hot spark from the coil wire. That's how I test for spark. I used to just pull the coil wire and hold it away from the block while someone cranks it over, but I'm sick of the shock treatment..... Hope this helps.
