Yes the 6.0 Trans cooler was made for the 6.0 liter fords, they are around twice the size of the 7.3 and are considered probably the best cooler for them. Slight modifications to the way you connect it, but installs in place of original. If you went aftermarket something very heavy duty like this Riffraff Diesel: Derale 20,500 GVW Transmission Oil Cooler would be a good suggestion.

Big Al. Do you have any Trans cooler mods? Do you recommend the 6.0 cooler or an aftermarket setup like the one you added the shortcut to?

I added a tru cool inline with the other 2 coolers on the truck (99 might only have 1 BTW) and I might have got 10 to 20 Degrees cooler still warm though in 100 degree summer heat temps around 200 towing at around 17K gross. I actually disconnected it and I have yet to install a 6.0 cooler I picked up from a salvage yard, but based on everyone elses experiences I expect cooler temps, besides it is just huge in comparison. Since it's been winter my temps haven't been above 120, but will get the 6.0 cooler installed probably in the next month or so, and look forward to seeing temperature comparisons.

So short answer go for the 6.0 cooler, it is what good transmission builders use too.

Diggie likey....! I must say, I want that dually, I think it would be perfect for my summer driver...but,if you're anything like me....you won't be selling it ! Good luck, and stick around...you'll be glad you did. Your wallet may get a little smaller....but your ear to ear grin will surely make up for it. A fellow 6 wheeler....

So which tranny cooler you would recomened for my 7.3L? i haul a 3 car trailer with cars? 6.0 or aftermarket?
PS. So i dont understand how come Ford made a better transmission cooler on a 6.0L powerstroke then on a 7.3L? Since most hauling cars or RVs are doing 7.3L? this means 6.0 has better cooler then biger engine like 7.3 that is weird?

Sounds like from What Big Al stated above in the post. Is the 6.0 Cooler is the way to go! The 7.3 is a better engine for sure. But I'm assuming the 6.0 cooler is a better design that the engineers came up with later on. Here is a link from a prior post.

Different transmissions too. 5R110 Torqshifts, they simply changed the cooler too.

I'm no expert, your trans can do it without additional cooling or better cooling, but even stock configurations, similar to me, I fear temps were getting too hot. Cooler temps generally are better on things.

This brings me to another thought...Anyone change the types of trans. fluid? like synthetic or running something exotic? I have heard of folks using other manufactures fluids. Like back in the day you could use type F in a GM trans and it would shift firmer.

Mobil 1 full synthetic is what I run.

I've heard from some fireman/mechanics that running a 50/50 mix of 5w30 with trans fluid helps it last longer they say they do it in all the ambulances but that's what I've heard has anyone else heard of this? And whwn I worked at the transmission shop in IL my boss said the best fluid for the 4r100 is just straight dex/merc
