Why am i running rich

If your on the other end of my tailpipe you will be gasping for fresh air its so bad. It runs terrific, sometimes the idle is slurpy like bloop bloop bloop, big cam style.
But if there is no O2 sensor what justifies how lean or rich these diesels run. When I am at a jobsite and i want to warm my truck up. The whole block reeks of diesel, everyone starts choking and screams shut that dam thing off your killing us. Look at my signature for my mods. Also it doesn't matter if i am on 35hp tune or 140hp tune.

Did you have your tunes re-burned when you put in stage 1 injectors? Your Pulse Width could be off and you are over fueling. It is hard to say without being there. It may be worth while to get it plugged into something like AE and see what you come up with.

Have you tried it in stock tunes to see if it still does it?

Normally when we had a problem with rough idling rich smelling trucks it was 75% of the time injectors.

I know someone in the excursion section did stage 1's and had to send a few back to get new ones because of problems.

Uh, if it's "running rich" it won't idle at a respectable speed.

More RPM/more power is simply more fuel. That's it.

I have AE. I'm not the electrical guru like some folks here. So I wouldn't know what my pulse width should be. But lets say its off, in the direction that would cause over fueling. How would I go about fixing it? Would I have to send my chip back to PHP and have it calibrated to a specific value. What is the going pulse width for stage 1 injectors. I need a base line to compare too don't I?

Pulse width is controlled by the PCM and the tune. Did you have your tunes tweaked when you went with stage 1's?

If it were me, I would call PHP and ask them what they would like you to record with AE. PW changes with tunes and idle speed, so normal isn't really normal! I am sure PHP will be able to get you a list of PID's they would like you to record. That data will be something they can look at and determine if your tues are the cause, or something else.
