Couple of scangauge questions...

I was thinking about a 3 gauge pod with the boost, trans temp, and EGT gauges but I may replace them all with the Aeroforce scangauge.

I am now thinking about going in on the group buy posted in another thread and I just have a few questions.

1)Would it be better to buy a separate EGT and trans temp gauge to go with the scangauge or should I use the scan gauge for all the functions?

2)What do I need to buy besides the scangauge to monitor the EGT, trans temp, and boost functions?

3)What's a good way to mount the scangauge? A-pillar pod, steering wheel pod?

I ordered my scan gauge yesterday with the group buy. I also ordered the coulom single pod to put it in. The pod is for a 99 to 04 sd but i have heard they fit the obs also.

I'd recommend a seperate egt gauge to be able to watch all the time. I wouldn't get concerned as much about the other gauges. Scangauge will show egt's, but its nice to see all the time. I've got my scangauge in the steering wheel pod, A pillar would be just fine also, depending what you want. You could put one in the dash, and one on the steering wheel column, or both in the pillar, etc.

Scan Gauge comes trans temp and boost ready because it get the information from the PCM. In fact it get all information from the PCM so that's why it can read most of the trucks sensors real time.

Scan Gauge does not come EGT ready as you have to purchase a separate kit to make it work. IMO it is kind of spend-y and you would be better off just getting a stand alone EGT gauge.

I used a two pillar mount ...

When you order the Scan Gauge you will have to pick a display color. I selected green to match the dash lights. However now I wish I selected blue to match the display in the digital pyro, so that is something to consider.

Just a thought...

Thanks for the offer but since mine is over a year old it would create a warranty issue if something happened. Maybe someone on here has a blue display and wants a green one and we can trade.

Wow, I've been reading up on the gauge. I didn't realize it did all that! It's does a lot of useful parameters, displays and clears codes, and even does the buzz test for the injectors! I'm sold. I'll get a separate EGT gauge though and a two gauge pod. I thought about green but I'll go with a blue cause I like the color. Besides my stereo isn't stock and is all lit blue anyway.

The ScanGauge EGT kit is $65. I don't see how it would be cost effective to buy another $150 EGT gauge. Why not just spend the $65 and get the add on kit?

I am replacing 4 gauges (Pyro, Boost, Trans Temp, & Fuel PSI) in my truck with 2 ScanGauges. It will be nice to be able to scan through the extra displays the ScanGauge gives. I will be scanning EGT's, boost, trans temp, fuel PSI, HPOP psi for sure. I will have to decide what the last one I want to scan will be.

Maybe not cost efficient right away, but if you don't have your scangauge set on the temp ALL the time, well, imo its worth having a gauge just for the exhaust temp.

I got a very accurate egt gauge for a lot less than 150 bucks...

The probe alone is $65 then you have to purchase the conversion module for $100, as that converts the probe to a 0-5 volt signal so the scan gauge can use it. At least, that's the way I read it.

Yes, it scans for codes and clears them too.
Does buzz and cc test also.

This is off the top of my head so I might of missed something ...

1. EOT
2. Auto trans temp
3. Boost
4. EBP (exhaust back pressure)
5. IPR % - they call it ICP %
6. ICP pressure
7. Injector pulse width
8. Current gear (auto trans)
9. MPH
10. Battery Voltage
11. IAT (intake air temp)

I usually monitor EOT and Boost. In the summer sometimes I will watch EOT and Trans Temp. In the cold winter mornings sometimes I will watch EBP and EOT while the EBPV is active. You can display any 2 parameters at a time or program it to cycle up to 4 screens for a total of 8 parameters. I have mine programmed to activate the warning lamps to come on when the Glow Plugs are active. You can do this by programming it to watch battery voltage and if < 12 volts to activate the warning lamps.
