Should I change my 100k mile tensioner?

I have about 100K miles on my 05 EX 6.0 and plan on replacing the serpintine belt soon with a Goodyear 4081252 Gatorback. No noise problems at the moment. Should I change the tensioner or let it go? I can get a Dayco 89313 tensioner for about $60. Just curious of what the normal practice is. I have a single alternator so I think I have the correct part numbers. Thanks

Pretty sure that your belt is 125.8 inches so the goodyear part # is 4081258 (at least that was the case for me).

I replaced my tensioner around 100k - but it didn't need it.

If there isn't anything else that fails relatively seldomly on a 6.0L, I'd have to say is the belt and tensioner. These are the two parts on a 6.0L that fail far less frequently than they do on 7.3L and 6.4L engines. If you feel like replacing them, go for it. If they are not broken or show signs of wear, I wouldn't worry about it.

Encouraging, thanks! My belt "looks" to be in excellent shape but I'm a stickler for maintenance as I make trips to the boonies with my family on the weekends and so figured I'd change the belt just because. bismic the 4081252 belt is 125.825" so maybe they're both compatible?

The length that should be 125.8 is the effective length - not the outside length.

I have replaced two tensioners that failed in the past 3 months one was around 118k and the other was 136k two different trucks.

Just a good habitt of mine for what its worth. When you replace your belt take the old one and Roll it up and stick it in a ziplock bag and put it somewhere in your truck. This has saved me especially if you are a boonies guy like me.

So I checked a second source and still get 4081252 as the correct number for the 05 EX. At this point after all the great feedback I think I'm just going to get a new belt and stick it in the center console. Cheers.

Mine was good at 133k, I did replace the belt with OEM..........Motorcaft stuff for me, routinely provides 100k of service without failure. Plugs, replacement wires, (when I needed them) lasted without issue. To me, it's worth the added cost and piece of mind.

I'll take it. Let me know how much. I FUBARed my tensioner lock and really want to replace it but other than that mine is still spinning at 181K.
