Has anyone used their 3 speed column shifter on an automatic?

 

I took no part so I can't explain why but a buddy of mine did it and it shifted backwards. park was at the bottom. U cld maybe add a lever to counter that?

I used a column outta a 57 ford car had to add a about an inch to the actual shifter tube, 1/2 copper pipe worked excellent for this and used pieces of the copper solder in butt joiners where i needed bushings. nice tight shifting, no slop.

for shift indicator used the "prndl" (yes that's a word in parts counterman circles) off of a early/mid 80s gm "G" series van with OD, the circumferance is just right for the ford columns, fastened with drilled & tapped tiny l'il screws then a strategically engineered(bent) piece of fat wire fastened to the shift tube via a tapped hole & machine screw painted black with the tip behind the prndl painted orange finishes the setup nicely

Of coarse on mine alla this is hooked up to a 700-R-4 trannny so not sure about the hookup from the column down for yours

I added an AOD to my stock FMX equipped vehicle using the stock column shifter. I changed the lever on the transmission to a Lokar fully adjustable unit. That lever can be clocked to whatever position you want. The firewall rod to transmission lever attachment point can also be adjusted. The main rod coming down the firewall is also a Lokar unit.
I had to "play" with the length of the very short dogleg connector rod that comes right off the column which connects to the Z-bar. Basically I shortened it to give me more sweep on the shift indicator. I was working around headers so the Z bar had to have one arm lengthened also. What you do up top will affect the firewall rod to transmission lever attachment point. It comes down to a manipulation of arcs to give you full gear selection.
I do have some pictures but they are on my work computer and I won't be back there until Monday.
It was a fun project.
