Man. I figured it was 2 wheel drive for that price. Very nice find. I would have picked that up for a plow rig at that price.

The body looks in pretty good shape, heck, the fender wells don't even look rusted. You got a heck of a deal.

My 2000 was in AZ for 7 years, no rust issues at all. 3 years in PA and the thing was falling apart, paint bubbling, etc... I sold that a year and a half ago for almost 4 times what you paid for that truck.

Seeing the pics of the water pump and cooling system make me wonder how that thing never over heated! Anyway like Matt and a few of the others have said that sounds like a good deal even with all the engine work.

If you have not installed them yet be sure to use the right socket and TQ not over tighten the plugs. They tend to blow out if not installed properly.

Thanks everyone

The truck looks like its been repainted. There's some red that shows through in a couple of places where its chipped. I think the original color is in the vin right? I'll have to check it out.

Worked all day on it today. Everything was going really well, I got the harmonic balancer off with a rental puller from Advance, the driver side valve cover came off real easy. The passenger side was a little tight but also came off ok. When I pulled the front cover I found that it was the passenger side chain guide, not the tensioner that was broken. The tensioner was maxed out, with the chain still fairly loose. Make sense I guess, thats why I was able to drive it, if the tensioner would have went I'm sure it would have jumped time. I felt pretty good at this point, my knuckles were only mildly bleeding and I had only been to 3 different parts stores a total of 6 times. I almost started putting it back together with the new timing chain kit, but soon remembered I had a new oil pump and needed to drop the oil pan in order to clean it out. I was finding plastic pieces everywhere. For some reason I thought I'd be able to drop the pan enough in order to get the oil pump out and clean it out....wrong. Even my mechanic mentioned that he thought it was doable. It started with not being able to get one of the oil cooler lines off from where the oil filter goes, then 3 oil pan bolts that I just can't get to. So I'm stuck at the moment. I'm going to drain and move two transmission cooler lines to see if that helps, but I'm thinking I'm going to have to find a lift to rent in order to move the engine up a few inches. Does anyone know if you have to unhook the exhaust? If I do I should be able to get to the two rear bolts. I just have no idea how to get them off without an impact wrench. The main thing was just not to get too frustrated and break something so I packed it in for the night Now thinking about it I don't guess it'll be to bad if I have to lift the motor.

This is how I found the passenger side. Notice the broken piece of plastic at the bottom. The inside of the cover was chewed up pretty good, the block looked ok.

To find top dead center (TDC)) I took all of the spark plugs out except number 1, then turned the engine over until I felt compression building. Then I clamped some vice grips on both cams. The drivers side moved a few degrees when I took the chain off. Shouldn't matter though as long as i move it back and align the links in the proper spot.
<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/F75JuZkAA7v52aYJSYvOwDPgfF5n1_Br4NBQVT2Co6I?feat=e mbedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-rnr8PjYd_Vg/TxT6nkBhVHI/AAAAAAAADGo/8tvJlaIMFic/s640/IMG_2541.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/richardbrandonsnider/F250?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCI2fr6nP9MrgzwE&feat =embedwebsite">F250</a></td></tr></table>

So I guess I'll start calling around looking for a lift. If that timing piece hadn't been broken this would have been a piece of cake.

Sunbelt

Sunbelt rents lifts for $87/week. Hopefully I can get a friend to pick it up for me and get back to work tomorrow. They deliver and pick up but it'll be $50 each way. Also I found a front cover for $100 from a junk yard. I'll add everything up when I'm done so if anyone is looking at this in you future you'll have an idea about the cost.

Thanks

Thanks but the timing chains aren't the problem. Any tips on dropping the oil pan would be appreciated. I'm getting the lift today and will with get back to work this evening or tomorrow.

Making progress!!

Well I turned the corner today! I ended up removing the throttle body and disconnecting the exhaust. I couldn't get the exhaust joint apart where the two become one, so I just removed all of the hangers and slid the whole exhaust backwards in order to get the oil pan out. I bought an elec Dewalt impact wrench and that thing really saved the day. I took the 4 bolts that mount the motor to the cross member off, then I put the old water pump back on and looped a couple of straps around it in order to lift the engine up. Once I got it up high enough getting the pan out was pretty easy. I just removed the 2 bolts holding the pickup to the oil pump and the bolt that secures the pickup under the engine. I found a few plastic pieces from the timing chain guide in the pan. I ended up getting the pan back on, exhaust hooked up, changed the lower radiator hose then lowered the engine back down and secured it to the crossmember. I sheared an oil pump bolt off tightening it ,the torque specs were in inch pounds and I wasn't paying attention. Stupid mistake, I knew it was too tight so I turned the wrench way down to see where I was, but when I put a little pressure on it the bolt snapped off. Luckily there was enough sticking out that I was able to get it out. So I stopped for the day and will pick up the new bolts tomorrow. Fingers crossed but she may be running tomorrow. If not I'm busy Sat and Sunday so I'll be back at it Mon.

Heres what I've so far. One pretty big piece in the oil pan with a lot of small chunks.

I should have thought mention it would have been a great time while you had the oil pan off to replace the dipstick tube. They tend to rust and snap off at the block. Maybe being a southern truck the rust won't be that much of an issue.
