I think this will be a great thread, just take a little time. I am obsessed with the bumps and dents with campers so I'll try to post as I find them. I had a 72 bump camper special with a 11' 79 slide in but I sold the 72 and now have my 74 SCS. I havent put the camper on the SCS yet but will do so this spring and post some pics. Here is a vid of me bringing home my 11' on the 72 for the first time: 72 F250 and 79 11' Mitchell Camper.MOV - YouTube

Great thread. 73 F350 SCS, have your neighbors complained yet? I think it's a great looking rig, but I'm not to sure how many of them are into the classics....lmao!

Here's a picture of what I'm working on. The camper is a 79 Lance Model 400. It's 9.5' long and weights 1800lbs. The truck is a 79 F150 with a built 400/C6. I'm almost ready to put the new D60 w/disc brakes in it along with airbags to help the ride.

That's a sweet looking rig. I love the Lance with matching blue.

I finally got my restored 79 Mitchell 11' camper onto my 74 F350. Looks good! I took the rig to a local car show last weekend and it gathered a ton of interest. Folks like the retro 70's rig and in this case, both the camper and truck are all original and in mint condition with original brochures, documentation, etc. I think folks got a real kick out of going into the camper and seeing the original 70's interior/upholstery, etc. Here's a pic.

Never took it out this year

I need to pull the sliding windows and replace the felts. The window felts are a little different size than those I've seen for cars/trucks. Does anyone know of a place that sells universal window felts? I'd like to send them a profile and see if they can match it up before I buy yards and yards of the stuff.

Frank

Hi Frank. I love your rig. Im looking at an original american road camper, like yours. He's asking 1K and Im around $700 offer. It's in great shape but needs some restoration. I will need to restore the upholstery to original. Are these very difficult to work on? I assume parts are nonexistent? Any tips for what I might need to look for in the camper before making a decision? thanks!

Finally found pictures of when mine had one. It's not as nice as your guy's but it's a camper. It's a little redneck though.

Like any camper check for leaks. This one being mostly fiberglass can hide stuff more apparrent in typical stick/aluminum construction. Check around the bed frame and where water would end up ,not where it would enter.
Also check around the jack stand mounts as the plywood can seperate. The plywood boxing is only stapled together. I had to re-enforce mine with some metal after I glued and screwed it back together.
The bigest pain when working on the camper are the screws. Starcraft used a security head screw for everything. The pattern on the screw head is not available anymore (at least I couldn't find the right bit). It's a bowtie type pattern, sort of. I ground down a bit that was close and it worked for me until i misplaced it ..arrrgh!
It is heavy at 3000lbs dry but then you've got the right truck for it!

Other than that , grab it for $1000 it's a bargain.

Frank
