Angry radiator leak on 2008 f250diesel

had to shell out 1280 on a radiator replacement for f250 2008 diesel truck. radiator was cracked. heard it was a common problem and ford would not give me a break. original bill wqas 1400 but dealer gave 10% off. still believe ford should pay for part .cost of radiator was $900. told not under warranty. any idea how to go forward to get ford to pony up for some of the cost. truck radiator flushed inOct and noticed small drip. thought it was an overfill. millage was 80000when took it to dealer tuesday.

I don't think you're gonna get a break since it's out of warranty. Sorry to hear. The blend doors for the dual zone climate control are apparently another fairly common item. Cost me over $800.00 to replace them. And I had an extended warranty...just not for that!

Only hope would be if the hoses were leaking before hand and they can't leak in the middle, then it doesn't count either way. Did they upgrade to the 2 O ring hoses at the same time? That is a $600 fix in and of itself. More than half that is labor so they could have done it pretty cheap since they had it apart.

About the only thing you can do is to report the failure to NHTSA. There they may eventually look into it. It is a fairly common problem with the design of the radiators. Even the new 2011's have had a couple of failures.

Vista pro makes and aftermarket for the 6.4.

Hey Guys,
Don't post much but wanted to chime in on this . back in March '11 ,my 08 6.4 sprung a leak from the radiator . I then had 15k miles and was 1 month out of warranty ! I tried to get some support from ford and they told me to pay $500 and the rest of the job is covered..
honestly not to bad ,not to be greedy but I never had a warranty concern in all of the 1st 3 years of ownership . just thought at least on a one time basis just take care of the whole thing.especially the fact it is a very known issue.
But to end the story, when I wen to the dealer to pick up the truck .the service manager and I went to check the vehicle before paying the bill.we opened the hood and found trans fluid all over the frame rail and dripping on the ground. It wasn't leaking ,it was just left a mess after the job .. He offered to get it cleaned up, I told him to forget about it .at that moment, he said to forget the $500 and the dealership took care of it..
I hope I didn't bore anyone with this long story

happy new year all!
Ray

The net cost of the radiator is around $550 as marked on my repair recept when my radiator failed and was covered under warranty. I don't want to scare you, but there have been owners who have posted here 3 and 4 radiators replacements on their truck. I reported mine to the NHTSA.

I have 1600 hours on mine. I think it has lasted due to long runs, less thermo shock.

My buddy's was replaced on his 2008 with 65,000 miles without a hitch under warranty.

Thought they were extended to 100,000?

All depends on where the leak is and what started leaking first, they are not blanket covered under the 5/100K
