Harbor Freight paint gun

I'm planning on painting my truck in the future a rat rod black. Not spending a ton on paint maybe the Eastwood stuff not sure. Since this is a satin color and I'm not trying to win a show...... Has anybody tried to lay down a paintjob with a harbor freight gun? If it sucks too much what sort of economy gun would you recommend, I might paint my car someday too but that might be the only cars I paint.

Good enough for primer , most likely good enough for a satin job , not much more ..

These, click here , will work fine for anything you want to paint ...

I have one and have painted my first base\clear and it turned out pretty good. I've also painted some black single stage that came out pretty good. and a lot of primer. I had a professional body guy come over to give me some tips on adjusting the gun and he was surprised that it worked as well as it did. I just bought the new 2 gun kit thay have for $49 because I wanted the 1.8 tip for primers and could no longer order one for my gun but haven't used it yet. so for the amateur or hobbyist I would recommend it.

There's a bunch of paint guns Harbor Freight sells. The most popular ones are a copy of an old Sata NR95. The ATD ones suggested in another post are the same copy as well. They spray fairly good for a inexpensive gun. Parts are a pain in the butt to get and they usually have cheaper seals that don't do well if you soak your gun in thinner. But if you keep it clean and aren't making a living using it, it'll probably work great.

I Agree on the HF guns as well . I have 3 & they are all of differing quality . I have used the ATD guns for many years . They hold up well & are easy to clean ..(BTW I soak them every day) .

Back in the Bottom feeding days we had Sharpe , Binks & Devilibus , And all the copy's as well. Oddly , all the parts were interchangeable from original 's to the copy's & vice versa with no noticeable difference in function

Yep, the parts are definitely interchangeable. But the price of 1 Sata seal is probably more than a new Harbor Freight gun. Sata parts are crazy ex*****ve.

Why did the word "expensive" get asterisk'd out. Is that offensive now?

Went ahead and bought the ATD 6900 set that was recommended, I figure for $86 I get a few extra bits and an extra gun.

Yep, Sata was just coming out when I got out of it, and I never got around to using those newfangled gravity feed guns. I understand it's the thing to use though.

I have one as well, and I've been pretty happy with it. Make sure you disassemble and clean it well before using it; mine had some residual machining oil and metal shavings in it.
