Hello wanted to start off saying hello. I have looking over this site for awhile and I have a 1965 f350 I could use some direction on. I would like to get away from the odd tire size and lug pattern and go to something a little easier to find tires for.
Here's a link to my build/getting her on the road thread if anyone is interested The 65 - The Ranger Station Forums
My question's.
1.Which trucks came factory with dana 70's specifically the 70HD?
2.What the are factory gear's in these axles?
My current truck has 5.13's and would like to stay around those same gears.
Thanks!
You can get tubeless rims for those axles, I have them. 17.5 and I have Yokahama radials on it. I also have the same rear ratio as you, my truck will run 55 at about 3,300 rpm. I have a 292 in my truck, and I figure I get close to 11 mpg on the highway. I bought new wheel cylinders for my rear axle at autozone. I haven't had to work on the fronts yet. NPD has a website catalog that has lots of good info, including rear axle info. If your bound and determined to get into a newer axle, find an early 90's F450 diesel. It has a solid front axle and the rear axle will have a ratio similar to what you have now.
Currently my truck has tubeless rims but the tires for them are pretty expensive, the cheapest I have found are about 180 a piece for street tread. I'll do some reading on those f450 axles, you wouldn't happen to know what size that rear axle is? I think I read like a dana 80 but I could be mistaken.
I dont know all years, but i do know that a 1984 f350 diesel came with the 70 HD.. But those axles only came as low as 4:10 stock i believe... Id stick with what you have now and just get new rims made
