Sound reduction blanket over engine and tranny?
Hey guys,
I have spent a little time under my 2002 7.3 while replacing the tranny and replacing the gaskets in the up-pipes and quickly came to realize that the engine is loudest down near the headers and up-pipes.
I also noticed that those that have filled their cabins with sound deadening report mixed results.
If you look at diesel motors in boats and generator rooms they tend to be covered with fire-proof sound blankets to cut down on noise.
I also noticed that the owner of a company that makes diesel sound blankets sells a ‘Quiet Kit’ for the Dodge Ram with Cummins Turbo Diesel
which is comprised of formed sound blankets. See it here:

Has anyone considered draping a sound reduction / sound deadening blanket starting on top of the turbo and down onto the transmission? I think there might be enough room for one. This might stop noise from penetrating into the cabin.
Tough part will be securing it properly but shoud be doable.
The noise is killing me!
Thoughts?

switch to 5w-40 fully synthetic oil. that should help quiet it down. they do want exhaust wrap. i would wrap ur exhaust from the headers, up pipes, turbo, and downpipe. it will give u much more power, and great spool up, also lowers egts and gives u more boost. this is a tough project but would be fun if u would b interested. i will one of these days when i want a big project. u could add hood insulation tho. just ideas but in a 6.0, the synthetic really quiets it down. also, putting tw/30 2stroke oil in ur tank(somebody on another forum does this and he says it stays really quiet)

I would be utterly amazed if synthetic oil had any effect on the noise an engine makes....
Wow...now youre tallking about a HUGE project to wrap all that....I dont even know if its possible without taking the headers off.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Anyway I spoke with the Sheryl at ADVANCED THERMAL PRODUCTS and she told me I could send dimensions or use a cardboard template which they would cut and sow into the desired shape.
It can make direct contact with the headers etc.
I'm gonna mess around with some cardboard templates this weekend.

Most of us dont want to hear that racket all the time. For those that like the noise, the they should cut a hole in the dash into the engine compartment....
I gotta say that on our 2011 F350, Ford managed to mask 95% of the diesel clatter and all you hear is the turbo spooling and"unspooling". Its glorious. I LOVE that sound. Who needs a radio!?
