I have been driving a lot of 7.3s lately, 02s and 03s, and I notice that they are considerably louder than my 02 Excursion 7.3. The 03 SuperDuty does seem a bit quieter but not as quiet as my Excursion. The trucks I have driven had stock exhaust and my Ex has a straight through muffler so its a bit louder than a stock exhaust but it is still quieter than the trucks. I dont know if they put the same insulation in the Ex as they did the 03 and later trucks or not.

Good observations. Thanks Studawg. Would be nice to know what extra sound deadening your Excurions have...
Searching for ways to control the noise in my truck too. What ever came of this? Seems like such a practical solution.
Well 2 things. They wanted like $400 just for a blanket which I would need to send a pattern for and then I would need to figure out how to attach so it wouldnt fall off or fall into the serpentine belt or fan.
Second, by adding 2-stroke oil and cetane booster to the fuel, the truck got so so so much quieter (I just couldnt believe it) that my search for noise control became less desperate.
BTW: The company cannot make covers for our headers because their isnt enough clearance.
Thanks for the quick reply. Seems a bit pricy. Think I am leaning towards sound deadening the interior cab. Should be interesting.
Having done a lot of reading of Ford forums on potentially sound deadening the cab, my impression is that most noted only mixed results after much time and $$$.
I think if the up-pipes and exhaust manifold could be at least covered with the sound mat, it would be WAY more effective than any interior sound deadening.
I have been under the truck after I put new o-rings/gaskets for the up-pipes and the sound from that area was remearkably intense compared to even the top of the motor.
