You'll need the Bill of Material (BOM) numbers off the axle to verify but page 74 of this document states that it is 30 splines. Tab down in the left menu for the Ford rear D44 axle.

1977/79 F100/150 Dana 44.3 Rear Axle without Limited Slip.
The following axleshaft part numbers depend on what the Ford AXLE ID tag code is.
The tag is under one of the bolts that retains the inspection cover to the housing, but...many are missing today.
D7TZ-4234-A Right & D7TZ-4234-B Left .. Axleshafts
D8TZ-4234-B Right & D8TZ-4234-C Left .. Axleshafts.
D9TZ-4234-A Right & D9TZ-4234-B Left .. Axleshafts.
========================================
1977/78 F100/150 Dana 44.3 Rear Axle with Limited Slip.
D7TZ-4234-A Right & D7TZ-4234-B .. Axleshafts.
If the AXLE code on the Warranty Plate begins w/a letter: Limited Slip / If with a number: No Limited Slip.

When 8D is typed together, unless you "disable smilies in text" .. you get that smilie face.
Before posting, scroll down towards the bottom of the page, check the box that sez: Disable smilies in text.
If you forget, you click on Edit, then click on Go Advanced and disable the little charmers.
