I Run a Hayden 679 cooler I bought at a local auto parts store. I use a AutoMeter "Z" series gauge I bought thru Summit Racing. They both work really well, I'm completely satisified with them.
I used the barbed fitting with hose clamps. I connected the aux, cooler down line of the factory cooler. I also have an electric fan I turn on manually any time my speed drops below 35 mph, works great. Even under heavy towing in the summer I have never seen temps above 185 degrees F.
Hints. There is a port in the left side of the transmission for mounting the temp sender. It will have a hex head pipe plug in it. When you install the sender be very careful you don't let it bottom out and strip the threads in the trans housing. The senders come in two lenghts, you want the short one. Summit has the short ones. Also use a high temp thread sealant suitable for sending units. If you use the wrong type the sender will not have a proper ground. The transmission fluid flows from the forward tube and returns back to the transmission thru the rear tube.
Mark,
Thanks for the info. A few more questions.
Where did you mount your cooler and how did you attach it.
Did the fan come with the hayden or did you add it on.
thanks.
I mounted the cooler right behind the grille on the A/C evaporator. ( it is the evaporator on the outside correct? I always get evaporator and condeser backwards)
I used plastic anchors provided with the cooler. They push thru the evap and work like a zip tip/ty wrap. I secured the fan over the cooler the same way. Fan did not come with the Hayden cooler, bought it from Auto Zone.
