I just bought a 2012 on 2/20/12 and it has the metal pan. I was waiting for this truck to come in from the Kentucky plant since 2/10 when it came off the line. For the F-450 I would of had to wait till begining of March.

Hate the oil pan plug

I have a 2011 F250 Diesel. Great truck except.....on my 2nd oil change, the truck started leaking oil after a few weeks. I took it to the ford dealer to get the oil changed and fix the leak. Two days later it is leaking again. I'm taking it back today. I am old school and believe in an oil drain plug that you put back in after you remove it. 2 out of three oil changes have resulted in leaks. The service manager said that sometimes they leak. How can that be acceptable? I don't think a 2011 should leak oil in 2012 or any time soon.

Is there a replacement oil pan/ plug that will stop this problem?

You either have a composite pan or a metal pan. Both use a drain plug that relies on an o ring. If that o ring is damaged you will have a leak. That is the easiest and cheapest fix. As for getting the plug out, you can either eat the cost of an oil change again or look into the vacuum trick in which a shop vac is used on the oil filler neck to prevent oil from draining when the plug is removed. Good luck.

Oil Plug

I took it back to dealer since it has only been a week since the oil was changed. The service guy talked to the servcie manager. They are going to look for a replacement option. For now, they are going to fix the leak for free. This will be a bummer if it happens everytime the oil has to be changed.

Another thing I don't like about the plastic oil plug is that if you go somewhere for a quick oil change and it it not a dealer, they may not have the plastic plug in stock to do the oil change. I don't like the proprietary nature of things like a dealer specific plastic oil plug. What was wrong with just putting the old metal plaug back in after you took it out to change the oil?

You can take it back and make them fix the leak or you could buy a SPE Steel Oil Pan and install it yourself. It would stink if you had to do it, but the fix is cheap and it's not worth losing any sleep over.

There's no reason to change the plug or even the o ring under normal circumstances. I've done 5 oil changes so far (all myself) and never a drip and all with the original plug and o ring. If the o ring is damaged by a careless technician then a leak is almost certain

Plastic Plug

Hmmmm....good to know. I was told, by a technician, that it had to be changed every time. I suspect there was some smoke blown up a particular place of mine by the tech.

Thanks for that info on the pan. I will see what they say first to see if they come up with the same thing you did. At least I can go armed with ammo this time. Thanks.

my plastic pan started leaking around the seal, bolts, and plug.
Under warranty, I was told by my local dealer, Ford will not fix these plastics pans. They replace them with the new updated part.... the metal pan with threaded plug.

..... Now to decide if I want to add a Fumoto to get an even easier way to drain the oil than what the plastic 1/4 turn plug was or just stick with the threaded plug.

Heavy Duty Hitch Reducer

What are your thoughts on the heavy duty receiver hitch reducer? Mine has a reducer that "floats". It is a pain in the buttocks when you put a standard hitch into it because it slides back and forth. There is no way to really hold it in place to line up the holes for the pin.

Does anyone have any magic solution to get it to stay put?

I have thought of just locking my receiver hitch on and leaving the ball on the truck, but I don't like busting my shin on it when I walk by without thinking about it.

I went with the diversitech adjustable hitch set up meant for 2.5" reciever and never been happier. I always leave it in tho and just know to not walk into it.

Like it was said they don't need to be changed every time. Also, if they did change it and charged you for the plug check and see what they charged. A replacement plug for the composite pan is only $6 and change for the entire plug with o-ring. Interesting to see what they charged considering the bad info they gave you.

drain plug on 6.7 PSD

I have the 2013 with 6.7,The drain plug on lower rear corner of metal pan rt side (pass) close to filter it drains fully and no leaks . In earlier post someone said theirs was in side on 2012 probably side of rear side I hade heard the change back to metal was due to cracks in plastic composite pans and with high pressure oil system would leak severely if cracked

Yeah I have a 2012 and it is in the back not the side. I am glad I waited to get a 2012 and not the 2011. Then again I went to the dealer in 2006 and test drove a 2006 F-350 dually 4x4 diesel Lariat but after researching online the problems everybody had I waited 6 years to buy my truck. Good thing I didn't desperatly need one.
