Just got the final bill from my tire guy and he treated me better than I thought, it was significantly under the list price..... Going to a radial tire was worth every single penny!!!!!
That sounds like what my old tires are going to do. Did you try some of that fluid that's supposed to not be corrosive? I think it's called rim guard.

So I've been answering phones today in the office since our secretary has had a tragic death in the family over the weekend. (I'm sure she and her family could use petitions to the maker if you're so inclined (have to be secular, you know)).

It annoys the crap out of me when people apparently dial the wrong number but don't have the common courtesy to say at least "Sorry, wrong number", and instead hang up out of embarrassment or fear. What do they think I'm going to do to them if they speak? Sue them?

Maybe I should try one of these next time.

I called the local Napa today and got the kid nobody ever wants to talk to. I figure I have an easy one, I just need a trans filter kit for a Chevy. I tell him what I have, and what I need, twice, and on the second time through he asks "auto or manual". I just sat there for a second, and finally said really? I'm calling for a trans pan and filter kit, that kinda rules out manual.

Did that once at Autozoo. Needed a motorcraft fuel filter for the kids 6 leaker. The girl behind the counter grilled me through all the steps till I got tired and when she finally got to 2wd or 4wd, I said, it doesn't matter, just pick one and tell me the part number.

She argued with me and said it did matter since they used different filters. So I told her I didn't know since it was the kids vehicle so just go ahead and give me one of each and I'll return the one I don't need.

She looked at both options, discovered they were the same, then came back with a Fram filter. When I said I asked for Motorcraft I got the lecture on how Fram was actually a better filter.

That was right before Autozoo fired an employee for running out to his truck, grabbing a pistol and defending himself, his customers, and his co workers.

I haven't been back since.

i had the new kid at napa going for close to 15 minutes looking for a water pump for a 1969 VW. the store owner had to walk out of the store, i thought for a minute he was going to chew me out.
instead he went outside and started laughing.
seems he has a glitch in his computer system that shows the 69 VW as having a water pump, and he did not know it. at least until i asked for it.
when the IT guys set up the new computer system, they installed "bugs" to have fun with the less fortunate parts lookeruppers. another one is the 83 corvette. never made, but it is listed in the computer. and the parts it returns as for the car are a mix of ford and chrysler parts. engines listed are a flathead V-8, with an optional 4 cylinder.
