79 Hood hinges swap with older model hinges

Hi

I have a 1979 Ford F100 and need to replace the hood hinges because the one is broken and the other one bent, so the hood dont close properly.

I bought a second hand hinges and when it was delivered I found it was from a earlier model F100 and the mountings are completely different. I just want to know if someone can tell me from which model they are and if anyone has ever done this.

I have some ideas how to make them fit and will update my progress. Just want to know if someone was a similar situation and if there is any advice or tips when doing this.

Oh and from what model does these hinges came from, The white hinge is the "new" ones I will be installing and the black ones the original ones.

This is the mounting of the 79 hinges:

And this is what I will need to fit:

I don't think that's going to work. I may be wrong, but those 'new' hinges look like they came off a bumpside. You'd be way ahead to get the correct hinges.

Yea I agree you need to get the correct model/style hinge, that white one is off a bump side I am pretty sure too.

So maybe a repair of the broke one and straighten and reinforcement of the bent one would be a better route?

Okay thanks guys, I asked for hinges for a 79 model and when it arrived I found these, Thought it might be early model dentside, but like you guys said it might be from a bump side, did not think it would be from that older models. Then I am not even going to bother.

It is quite difficult finding parts in South Africa, we dont have junk yards and stuff where you can go and pick parts, and if you do find some, they either come like this or quite expensive.

But I will give it a pass then, thanks for the quick reply!

If you ordered them from a on line business I would say they owe you your money because they sent you the wrong part.

I can't even imagine what it takes to get parts there.

There should be part numbers stamped into each henge. Post those to identify exactly what year the parts are that you have.

I'm sorry, Justin, I forgot you were in South Africa. Have you ever had something shipped from the states? Are the shipping costs outrageous? If they aren't too bad, I'm sure somebody here would have a set of hinges that would fit.

I had a look on them but could not find any part number, they painted with a thick paint so maybe its covered up or something.

I have no experience in shipping stuff from the states, from what it sounds it is sometimes worth the effort. Just to give an idea, comparing the prices one will pay new for something from the states including shipping and taxes is the same as buying it here second hand. If you can find it second hand...The only problem with shipping it is it might take a few weeks to get here.

I really appreciate all the help and input!, I think I am going to do some research on shipping costs and get the parts directly from you guys!

Haha, nice one! Thanks for the Pic! I am going to look into it and with a list of spare parts it would be totally worth all the trouble to ship it. Thanks! Saw a pic of that red one with the dual exhaust sticking out the roof on another post today somewhere, that thing must be loud? youve got a nice collection!

Thanks and YES its VERY loud in the cab, its just a mudder and the wife loves it too.

Get a early x mas list together and let me know, I'd be more than happy to try and help you out. As I am sure the rest of the FTE clan will....

I have 2 more complete front clips and...well....a few more parts setting around.

Do not know if it is the weight or dimensions that is the driving factor in the shipping cost, but will try to help you out how ever we can.

If repairing and beefing up the old springs not a viable option?

Wow, can see you have quite a collection of spare parts and rims! I initially wanted a set exactly like those black ones but the place that do import them asked me almost half of what I payed for my truck, just for the rims. So got some local rims and made them black, not entirely what I wanted but will do the job for now!

Regarding fixing the current hinge, look at the second picture, the bottom stud at the right hand side, you can see where its broken, i have looked and gave it some thought of repairing but with moving parts and heavy hood that will be opened and closed a lot it will never be like it should and in the long run i will sit with the same problem again. I might have found one not to far from me, going to go and check it out the weekend before buying it this time, waiting on some pictures as well. then hopefully I can fit my hood again

I have been on the web googling some shipping websites and asked around from people who previously imported parts from the US and things not looking to bad.

For instance this link gives you an estimate cost on your parcel considering weight and size, American AirSea Cargo - Air and Ocean Freight to Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Asia, Europe - Car / Package Shipping Services , still going to do some more research on the ins and outs, but with you guys help we might be importing some parts soon!
