How big of "buts" you catching out on the coast these days. Last time I was halibut fishing was off a Coast Guard Cutter off of Kodiak Island, caught a 40 pounder, yummy.
My dad and I usually go out to the Rock Pile out of Newport, about 15 miles out. Last year we didn't get out much but caught a 25 pounder and a 55 pounder.
Nothing like my 113 pounder up off the north coast of Vancouver Island though!

I usually go out to the peripheries of the pile since we can't bottom or ground fish on top of it anymore. This year they have a bunch gear moored near the NW corner that extends to the west of the pile that they want you to stay out of as well.
Chicken Ranch, Banana and Daisy are also good spots, but they are twice as far to get to, 30 to 35 miles. The big ones we get usually come from around the pile anyway.
im back.. and so incredibly stoked!!!! i was talking with my wife at lunch and she gave me the ok to start working on and restoring my dads 81 bronco with a 300-6 it has been in the family since 1990 and it is the vehicle i learned to drive in!!!

Yeah, we don't ever go out to the chicken ranch, mostly small fish and too long of a trip out there. We usually do well around the rock pile. No specific spot, just find a depth and looks good and go with it...

That's awesome Micah! Should be a fun project.
I had a '81 Bronco with a 351M, talk about a worthless motor... I would have prefered the 300-6, I had a 300 in my '87 F150 which was my first vehicle. Lots of memories driving that 2wd 4-speed.
