Dave has a point... when the law makers make laws... they got to be able to enforce them leagly. The cop can write whatever he wants, all the way down to giving you a citation for driving your truck with a smile on your face... But its the judge that uses reason and logic to adjudicate...

Read the laws, and if your right it will be proven in the words used in the law...

Unless you get a crooked or closed minded judge that has been cut off by to many big trucks... in that case there is nothing anyne can do for you

title and registration both say 4300 lbs which is incorrect, so i have to get that changed somehow as well, as far as scales go, the truck is modified now and they would only say it ways that much because of the mods.

This should help. (see attached)
These are some of the pages from the specification sheets. It's for the 2000 model year but the figures should be the same. You might have to try and find a download for 1999 model year if you are going to walk into court and argue your case. I found this online so I presume that 1999 would be available also.

There are two files attached. Pages 72-74 show the curb weight by model, cab and wheelbase. This is the weight of the truck without any options. Right off the bat you will see that your truck already surpasses the 5000 lb mark. The other attachment shows the weight of each major option. Add up all your options as originally built and you have your total weigh when new.

Hope this helps!

I wish I could remember. I think I found it on the Ford Fleet site. I'd like to have the version for 1999 since I have one of those as well. I'll try and do some digging on the fleet site and see if I get lucky.

Here is the full version for the 2000 model year....

They're on the Body Builders web site. But index only goes back to 2000, but I suspect the files are there if you knew the names. You might be able to follow the "Contact Us" link and get earlier versions.

Maybe for big semis but in Florida if your truck weighs over 5k your exempt from any bumper height laws, don't know why they wrote it into law that way but its fl statue 316.251
