What should I know before i buy? What are the known problems?

 

What kind of fuel economy will i get? I live in new england

 

I got about 11 mpg til my DPF fell off. Edge tuner on level 3 gives about 16.5 mpg freeway on cruise, and about 15 mixed. Search the forum for info on radiator leaks. HPFP failure is the most dreaded and expensive problem but isn't unique to this truck, or even to Ford.

 

i got 12.5 mpg when i first got mine.. no more dpf.. i'm now getting 19 hwy.. and about 14.5 around town

things to look for..

Have coolant checked for proper levels.. there are test strips for this

make sure the coolant system isn't leaking.. there are new updated radiator fittings with 2 o-rings instead of 1 now. You could have the dealer pressure test the system...

find out when the oil was last changed.. i do mine every 5k

find out when the fuel filters were last changed.. everk 10k is the forum consensus..

Get an oaisis report, it will show any warranty work thats been done to the truck thru a ford dealer.

there are prob a few other things i cant think of right now.. but they are things i wished i knew going in to buy mine.. im' sure some more people will chime in.. also try a search

 

It's dang good truck if used as workhorse! If you're buying it for fuel economy, however, look elsewhere!
