Which is the best year if any for the 6.4
#3
Diddo that. Ford had 3-4 years to analyze and fix their issues with the 6.4 system. But don't let that prevent you from taking advantage of a low mileage 08-09. There were lots of TSB's on these systems that could have been fixed in earlier models. There are several posts here listing specifics to look for when buying a 6.4. Most importantly is maintenance records.

I'm somewhat kicking myself in the a$$ for that. I bought the 2010 6.4 partially on that thought, other was financial incentives. But it looks like the 2011 6.7 may have been the exception to that rule.

Isn't that a minor fix with a 20 minute reflash? And that flame out the tailpipe sensation on youtube was rarer then hens teeth. The 6.4 had very little hardware mechaical changes from 2008-2010 unlike the 6.0 that had water pump, turbo, heads, egr valves, egr coolers, icp sensor locations, fuel injector, glowplugs, pistons, etc.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Alot of tranny issues and cel issues, turbo's that wine.

My biggest, if not only, complaint about these rigs is the stupid DPF and the stupid regens. OMG it's such an annoyance. Other than that, I've had a few quirks worked out under warranty and the truck has been great..
Our DPF system is considered rev1. The 6.7 is rev2 and from all I can see, it's become a non-issue for most folks.
My 3/36 is coming up in less than 2.5Kmiles and I have to fix the blend door pretty quickly. The truck is catching up with my wife's Lexus in terms of going into the shop!
I have a bad habit of keeping my cars forever. The shortest was my wife's 10yo Honda Accord only because its tranny crapped out prematurely. I was just saying to myself earlier I'll probably trade-up my SD sooner than that
