Dana 44 inner seal removal question
Hi!
Need to replace the inner seals on my -78 F-150 4x4 front axle. Have removed driveshafts, differential cover and bearing caps, still the diff case won't come out. What more do I need to remove? Any special procedures or tools on the inner seals?
Thx //Ekkehard

I don't know which kind the axle is, did you either 1) remove the shims or 2) remove the lock on the screws and loosen the bearing adjusting screws? You may need to just give it a little love with a prybar to pop it out. If its the shim style get ready for all of your shims to come flying out.

I've used some well placed blocks and ratchet straps to pull the ring gear and diff out. Had some stuborn ones and used boards and blocks chain and a jack too. Be carefull and patiant you don't want to get hurt or wreck stuff. As for the seals I tap them out with an old broom stick knocking them into the center.
