I'm putting a 360 that came out of a 71 crew cab 4x4 with rear sump oil pan in one of my projects how much motor oil does it call for in the service manual when doing a oil change? Want to make sure my dipstick is marked right before firing it up

 

My 69 F250 takes 5 qts. and a filter to get the oil level in the Safe zone on the stick...some use 6 qts. to put oil level up to Max on the stick.

Yes...Six quarts total, inclusive of a filter change, according to the factory manual.

FEs notoriously over-oil the valve train and under-oil the mains. Some install restrictors (Holley carb jet) under the rocker stands. There's an old saying that FEs pump four quarts to the top end, have one quart in the filter, and have one quart in the pan.

 

Good to know about the way the oiling system over lubes the valvetrain and under lubes the mains haven't gotten into the Fe's to much so a lot of info is new to me
