dana 60 in a f100 4x4

ok this is what i have its a dana 60 out of a 74 f250 2wd it has a detroit locker with 3.54 gears and 30 spline axles was wondering if a set of 4.10/4.11 gears will fit on it and what it would take to fit under my f100. yes it has 8 lug hubs, but i have a set 77 f250 dana 44 8 lug hubs for the frt end the ball joint look the same so i think thay will work. If im a dumb **sss i really dont need to heer about it. but would like your help in the project. i have lots of time but very little money.

I did this not too long ago. I scored a 77 dana 60 with 4.10 gears and a powr lok lsd in it. The only thing i did to it was move the spring perches to get my pinion angle right after i did a shackle flip. As for the front is it a hp or lp axle? Im not sure if it matters to swap knuckles im no guru. I ended up swapping spindles off a 78 axle to mine. Direct swap.

it has small hubbs on it and both have the pin above the axel so hp? the driver f100 allreaddy has 3.50 gears just went through that but my work closed down so its back to the woods and will b pulling a camper so i think gearing it down is a must . i had 3 pu 2 for parts one driver 76 f100 box job . 78 f150 broooookkkknnnnnn mud boger and 76 f150 parts truck. the f250 44 was out of a freind truck that i got in a trade. so does any one know if 4.10 gears will fit on a 3.54 carer or am i stuck with that. What is the cut off 3.50/3.73/4.10/4.56/4.88

I do believe 4.10 gears will fit on a 3.50 carrier. I think it changes at 4.56. And you can. Swap knuckles with no problem

You say it's a 2WD then you say you have a D44 in the front, so which is it?

The cutoff is 4.10 so you'll be fine using the same carrier.

I believe what the OP means is that the donor truck the D60 came out of is 2wd.

He is making a fuss because 2wd drives don't have straight axles they have the twin beam system. So the donor truck is a 4wd.

however.... it sounds like there are 2 donor trucks. The rear D60 is coming out of a 74 2wd and the front from a 77 f250. I think everyone is a little . I had to read OP's posts a few times to interpret what he was saying.

Im confused . Are you talking about front or rear d60 axles. A 74 d 60 front axle would be low pinion with druM brakes. Big waste of time. Scrap metal!
Outer axles would be 30 spline but inners i figure should be 35 spline. Are you sure its a d60?
Put a 9/16 wrench on diff cover bolt. If its 9/16 you got a d60,1/2" wrench its a d44.

carrier break is 4:10 down and 4:56 and up BUT you can always use a 3/16 ring gear spacer for lower than 4:10 gears on a 4:10 down case. Trans dapt sells a spacer $20 or so..
Take some pics and show us what you got.

ok i will start over. the driver is a 1976 f100 (box job)= the cab is a 76 so it is licenecd as a 76 the rest of the pu is made up of differt pu.

i have a d60 REAR END out of a 74 2 wheel drive i would like to put it in the 76 f100 4 X 4.

the d60 came with a locker and 3.54 gear set as the one in it was broke.
i would like 4.10 gears for towing yes they will work on the locker that came with the 74 d60 2wd rear end.

becouse the 74 d60 rear end is an f250 it comes with 8lug hubs so i got a a d44 front end out of a 77 f250 to use the 8Lug hubs with disc brakes on the front of my f100. i did take some picks will try to up load.

Yes the 4:10 gear will work! Any lower and you need a 4:56 and up carrier (new locker) or a spacer as I mentioned.

O also I'm pretty sure the width of spring perches will be too narrow from the 2wd. I think they will have to be cut off and set a couple inches wider. Better pull out the tape to measure first.
