I have green Napa coolant in my truck and was wondering what the proper coolant is. What is the anti cavitation additive i need? When I flush it out can I leave whats in the block? That's a bunch of questions thanks in advance, Eric.

When did they change the cup sealent?
I know e99's cant use ELC, just not sure about 99.5's
Just make sure before you switch to ELC.
If you have to use green coolant, get some test strips and pour in some of this additive if needed.

Wonderful! Now you got me second-guessing this thread. I installed the Prestone ELC 10k ago, and no effects..(knock on wood)...L99 here.

Nothing from what i've read, but need to keep up on the SCA, which Franko linked the additive.

PSD owners switch itout for the ELC, so they wont have to worry about the additive/test strips

Dont get nervous yet, it may just be a e99 thing.

EDIT: it's just an e99 thing. Your fine Timmyboy
Sorry for the scare.

You can also get test strips from NAPA and use their additive if you like. That is what I do since I can get their additive in a gallon size jug for a reasonable price. All 3 of my trucks still have the green type of coolant. I haven't switched to ELC because I am too lazy to go through all the trouble to flush out the entire system to purge the green stuff so I just keep an eye on my SCA balance and add conditioner when necessary. I change my fuel filter every 15k so I check my coolant at the same time and it's not really a hassle for me yet.

When the time comes for new oil cooler o-rings, then I'll switch to ELC at that time. I won't do it before then because my coolant will be contaminated if/when the oil cooler o-rings leak and then I'll have to toss out the entire batch anyway. From what I've seen, ELC is pretty expensive so I'll just stick with the green stuff for now.

If you have NAPA coolant and it's green then it is not their pre-charged stuff. They have what is called NAPA Fleet Charge which is pre-charged with SCA but it's a purple-ish color. That stuff mixed with the normal green will make your coolant turn nasty brown. So, if your coolant is still a vivid green then you really want to check your SCA level to ensure that your engine is protected.

I believe the Texaco pre-charged coolant is green still....at least it was last time I checked.

For 99.5 and newer trucks, International recommends red ELC coolant much as CAT ELC, Peek Final Charge, and several others. For early 99 and older International recommends green non ELC coolant. With these you'd have to add SCA's. Or you could use Fleetcharge that already has SCA'S added to it.
