coming from a 16 year old myself, he's gunna wanna drive that baby every chance he gets. Early on my parents told me id have to pay for car insurance and buy my own vehicle. I got a job at 15 1/2 worked and worked and put it all in the bank. Found my baby on craigslist, a 93 f150 xlt 4x4. I contacted the guy, bargained for it, paid for it, and transferred the title with a little help from my parents before i even had my licence. Sat in my driveway for exactly a month before it was fixed up enough to be even safe enough to drive but man the first time i drove it, fell in love instantly. Sure it breaks once a month and it leaves me stranded here and there but i love driving it, i get bored driving anything else. But no matter what happens he's gunna love it and if he's like me he's gunna love learning how to fix it. Best of luck with the truck

Reminds me of my first truck, my 1992 F150, 4x4 shortbox. granted, it's now packing a 460/5 speed and 40" tires, but thats what happens when u grow up and dont sell your first truck...

We drive it every day after school. the truck has clutch so that learning curve has been steep. If you all can't tell I am about as excited as he is to have ford, project truck in my shed.

I know he's happy to get that! I know I would be. That truck is beautiful.
wish very badly that I still had my 79 f150 4x4.

I believe if you are to start out on a vehicle it needs to be a old run down ford truck that way you learn how to fix it and you know that truck very well. Mine we paid 400 for and it didn't run and was kinda beet up now it is great.

Love hearing from you guys, my son wants to soak in all the ford knowledge< i am happy to help.

The only thing that went down faster than the gas gauge was the tread on the back tires. Didn't take long for dad to pull the 429 and replace it with a 6-cyl diesel from a 6000 Ford tractor. It wouldn't pull the hat off your head or get far enough into a mud hole to get stuck, but I could cruise all night on a couple gallons of farm diesel! Ahhh...those were the days.
Funny stuff, a big block was never in the cards, I have been watching CL for moths on end for the right truck. He wanted a manual trans I new the 4.9 was the ticket. In a few years we will build a bigger bad *** FORD.

on a side note, what year did ford officially make the recall part correct (ie did they change it so any thing from X year to 96 was fixed or what? i need to see if i need to be concerned, and the picture is not showing up for me for some reason...
He has the link and I have informed him to sign up to sign up and get involved. Yes I agree he needs to on here too. very good point.

That looks like a clean truck. I'm sure he will enjoy it.

Definitly disconnect that cruise control connector temporarily until you get the recall done.

As for the bumper, I'd look for a decent OEM one like this. In my opinion its just about the only bumper I'd ever put on one of our trucks.

Good, glad he does, now he just needs lots o pics of him with his truck and of any and all projects he will be doing also might I suggest looking into the dome light upgrade, if you want to see more just look into my project thread (link in sig) for it, should be first or second (i think) post but yea I did that upgrade and love it, looks a lot cleaner then some ugly silver thing that is a b**ch to replace bulbs in...

@BD: I know what you mean on that comment about not selling your first truck, I may have to sell mine just to keep it from becoming some ungodly powerful "monster" truck...I plan to one day after the money is saved do a diesel swap on it!

Great first truck. At 19 i own two bought 100% with my own money got the first at 17. I've only had my license since 18. Pay insurance, fuel, maintenance. Getting rid of one shortly as the condition is just too bad and it has many good parts which will go on my other truck, and the engine too my dads. Plus having two just is just too much. 3/4 parts are way more spendy too.

Thats the exact kind of f150 i'd want. Good thing they are very easy to find around here too.

Snapped a bunch of pics and will get them loaded later today.

Found some great deals on parts and have ordered
JC WHitney: rear shocks and new rear leaf hanger, shackle kit. They have free shipping right now using the promo code WELCOME.
Amazon ordered new rear upper shock mounts and a locking gas cap.

Today We need to find the best place to order a 3g alt as the one in the truck is toast. Seems like RJM has the best deal on a 95 amp. Any input here would be great.

I will try and help your son with some of the things to know about but I do have a diffrent engine then your son. I personally have a 302 V8 and I needed it for pulling some types of loads. I am running Rancho RS9000 shocks now on my truck and they seem to be good but I just got them installed. If you need a bumper I would go with a stock truck bumper. We had a 1993 F250 with one and it was able to take a beating and look good. Craigslist is where I got all three of my brush gaurds for our trucks. A manual is good I learned manual very fast myself but don't have it in my truck. Your son will learn alot fast on here. I am not usually in this thread because these old trucks are so easy to fix but will stayed tagged on this one so if you need any info I can try to help you.

Wow that is a sharp truck.
I'm 15 also just about 15 1/2 and just got my first truck. A 1991 F150 2wd, it has the 300l too. HArdly any rust, runs good. Got it for 200 bucks. I can't pull mine into the garage until the weekends but when I do I hide the keys so it can't be pulled out.
By the way, what is wrong with your bumper? If you don't want yours, I'll take it. My truck got clipped early in its life so the bumper is pushed upwards and dented up.
Tell your son that I like his truck a lot. More then mine even.
