5.0 in a ranger?

i currently have an 86 f150 and the front end was recently smashed so it needs to be replaced but im not sure if i want to fix it or find a cheap ranger and take the driveline along with everything else i need to fit it in the ranger.

so my question is, how difficult would it be to put a 302 with an aod tranny in a ranger and what else would i need to make it work?

Here are a couple places to read up on....http://www.v8-ranger.com/red/red.php
1986 Bronco II 2.9L To 5.0L Engine Wiring
The Ranger Station has more articles on v8 swaps.

I am like Wolfie as us old farts don't like the cold much. I used to work outside and still can but prefer not to. :-)

Take time while it's cold to gather info and parts, when spring rolls around start working.
302s in Rangers are pretty easy as engine swaps go..........Check out James Duff.comm for Ranger V-8 swap parts and info.

I have built 5 Ranger/Bronco IIs V-8s over the past 20 years, not that hard to do.

19704x4 mentions The Ranger Station, they have a very good write-up and section devoted just to Ranger V-8 swaps. Quite a few doing your same swap. I'm just up river a bit from you outside Stevens Pont and have a 5.0L on the stand right now for the 2000 4x4 but like said - too cold for me.

that was very helpful but my question is, would the stock rear end of the ranger be able to handle the power of the v8?

All Rangers with the 4.0L have the 8.8 rear end, strong enough for all but the hard core. From '93' on, they are a complete bolt in job. Will fit in the earlier ones with very minor changes involving the driveshaft yokes/u-joints.

Hey jpeck, we put a 5.0 in my boys truck and it has the 7.5 rearend and it does fine. It is no race truck now, just a decent little sleeper and the 7.5 has took a pretty good beating.

Hey smalltrucker, your avatar looks familiar.....:-)

Sure ought to - Malcolms site! Yep, the 7.5 rear end will last until you put some power to it, big tires and such.
